An enhanced risk (level 3/5) for severe weather was issued across northern Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin on July 28th, 2023. Storms broke the cap around 6 pm, and quickly exploded into severe supercells by 7 pm; bringing with them very large hail (up to baseball size) as well as a few tornado warnings. Before long, storm mergers caused the supercells to congeal into a severe MCS (mesoscale convective system), which packed winds as high as 80 mph. This video includes footage from one of the tornado-warned supercells in southwestern Wisconsin, as well as footage of severe winds in northwestern Illinois a couple hours later. #wiwx #ilwx
