I think the shallow pan inbthe set from Amazon is the lid for the deeper pan. The shallow pan can also be used as a frying pan.

Yes! The handles slide together when the shallow pan/lid is put on top. My Grandmother had a pan set like that. I think it was called a chicken fryer.

@@TealHouseFarm Yup, it's definitely the lid to the bigger pot. The shallower pan doubles for a lid as well as a shallow frying pan or griddle for cooking pancakes, eggs, grilled cheese ext. similar to the bigger square griddle/grill you have. It's usually advertised as a chicken fryer or combo cooker. Lodge makes one similar to the one you have. It's a great addition to any cast iron cookware set. I agree with you about the Amazon basic quality, I have a few and they are as good as my more expensive Lodge, perfect for someone on a budget.

You have a wonderful collection of cast iron! I have three sizes of cast iron skillets in various sizes that belonged to my great-great grandmother. They are all unmarked on the bottom, all are slightly different, deep and all very heavy. They were passed down in my Mama's family and I got them when she passed away. I adore them and have used them so much over the years, but now I have a lot of problems with pain in my hands and can no longer use them becasue of the weight. I am passing them down to my daughter and granddaughter soon so that they will stay in the family. I don't want these family treasures to just sit in a cupboard and not be used.

Great collection! I love my cast iron pans and use them all the time. When my grandma died 42 years ago I got her cast iron skillet. I remember her frying chicken in it every Sunday, and I have never tasted chicken as good as my Grandma's. Unfortunately, I lost it in 2004 when we lost our house in a fire. I have replaced it with a similar one and now after all of these years of use it is well broken in, but I loved her skillet so much. You have a good variety of pans and I am sure they are loved. Have a great day! (Annie did great!)

I have one of those tiny skillets. Mine came from Walmart with a cornbread mix. I use mine to fry 1 piece of bologna, and the rest of the time as a spoon rest. That "shallow" skillet is the lid for the Amazon basic. It serves 2 purposes.

I loved your video today about the cast iron, I use my cast iron skillet almost every day , even to warm things up in, Get a cast iron skillet and you don't have to keep replacing your skillets with the non stick stuff....works for me. You brought back memories for me when we lived in such a tiny little cabin,, hubby put peg boards up and just about everything was hung up and it looked great too! Blessings to you today!!!

I use parchment paper in my bread pans (not cast iron but same concept) rather than greasing the pan. When I remove the bread, I just leave the parchment paper in the pan. Can reuse them for a while. Note that I trim my paper so there is no overhang, I have had parchment catch fire before in my oven. I would think if you did not trim you probably should not reuse the paper as it does get kind of brittle feeling. Now I am wanting the drop biscuit pan :D

Enjoyed watching this. My son just gave us his cast iron frying pan, the 10 inch size, about six months ago and I have not dared use it because I have tried and ruin a few pans in the past, getting them rusty. Can't wait to see a proper cleaning video. Some people have said they don't really clean them at all. They just use paper towels and wipe them out. Can't see having grease residue on them since we have had mice and ants depending on the season. I DO use a hexclad pan which I got for Christmas and love it. I will definitely get that in more sizes. It is pricey though, but has lasted these last six months looking almost like new.

You do need the grease layer to protect the pan, but there won't be nearly enough to attract any rodents!

I love this video. I’m eyeing g that open deep pan (without the lid) I havd many of the same… but my skillets Don’t havd the “hand hold” on the skillets… just the single handles. I’ve had them for 40 years. And I use them freq! I rub my cast iron down with Walrus oil.. or crisco (solid) but I do scrub them despite the raised eyes of other who say never wash!

If you ever have to buy a new stove that is electric with the coil burners, just know that, they’re not the same as the type of burners you have. The new and improved coil burners have a Sensi thing in them to regulate keeping things from boiling over and causing a fire. So that means you can’t can on them and you can’t fry. Great video. California came out with this rule for electric stoves. That’s what I heard. Unfortunately we have a stove with coil burners the new style that is a 27 inch stove with one big burner which holds an 11 inch pan. That’s the way it was set up in this house and until we remodel that’s what we got.

@@TealHouseFarmjust passing along what I found out. We have a 27 inch stove with one big burner and all the burners are Cincy burners. In other words, they won’t get hot enough to fry anything or can anything. I’ll because of a stupid thing that California came out with. You can get replacement burners, but they don’t fit exactly the same. But they’ll work OK.
