We may do that at some point Ken. I will say this, once you go in to forward programming and start the "Initial set up" process, the transmitter takes you through the prompts and instructs you what to do at each step. It was so much easier than I thought it would be.

I can't get my head around what to feel about gliders. A part of me think they are awesome. But whenever I take one to the skies, I always wish I brought something else. Maybe it's because my gliders are not the best quality. I scratch built a tiny un-motorized hang-rat once. It was cool, but short lived🤣 Love the high-speed sounds👍 And your review is top notch as always✌️

Wonderful to see a review by someone with all your experience and understanding. I have flown full scale and RC sail planes for many years. I am amazed what these foamies can do. My old balsa gliders are no match compared to the new material’s. In the very old days in full scale and RC, we thought a light wing loading and high lift wings were the way to go with giant spoilers to get down. That only holds true when you are in a thermal. But not the best for when you’re hunting for them. So developed razer thin wings low drag. Then went from spoilers to flaps primarily because of your ability to go from razer thin wing to higher lift when you want it. But increases drag. In full scale, you know your best L/D speed, (distance you can glide). Minimum sink speed. (Used in a thermal) , and mcready which is maximum speed trade off vs altitude loss used in racing. And the art of coring thermals. The wing on this glider is a beautiful design of low wing loading great thermaling .Where the Volantax asw28 is the same airplane with the razer thin wings. I love them both! Like different tools in the toolbox. This is the best by far for learning to core thermals. There is an excellent simulator for this used by glider pilots around the world, called Condor. You develop a feel for thermals. If, your right wing rises , thermal is to the right. If your left wing rises, thermal is to the left. If your nose rises, thermal is in front of you, if your tail rises, you just flew through it. Can’t wait see your thermals! Cheers

NICE! IMO the real fun begins when the model is used as a sailplane, using the motor only once to gain soaring altitude, then motor is off for the full flight; relying on thermals etc. only, to fly. I had the smaller model to this, the Volantex Phoenix 1600, and it soared beautifully. Great video Adam.

Thanks very much! We just set it up stock to review it in stock form. You would have to eliminate the automatic plugs on the wings to give each aileron its own separate channel for mixes like crow, etc. That is doable though. Nice flying as always Adam, I haven't flown this one yet but I do have a 2.5m ASW-28 (a wood and fiberglass built up model) and the FMS 2.5m ASW-17 and I've found them to be a lot of fun for sport gliding but they do not make good thermal ships unless you're flying in very strong lift. I have both of mine set up through the glider programming menu with full span camber control and it's still not enough to make them good for chasing thermals. Foam is not the best material for gliders, it's just not rigid enough to have sharp leading and trailing edges for better aerodynamics. That's why they whistle so loud :p Looking forward to the next video once you've had some time to get used to it and really dial it in.
@ModelAV8RChannel
Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yeah I realize the best gliders are composite or balsa, I have realistic expectations. I don't think I'll ever be a high enough level glider pilot to want one of the really high end ones, but you never know! I have to say, the whistle is my favorite part! Lol.
@CR5rc
Жыл бұрын
@@ModelAV8RChannel The whistle does sound cool, but it's the sound of drag. These 4 servo wing foam motor gliders are a lot of fun once you start digging into the available options in the glider programming menu and remove the y-harnesses in the flaps and ailerons. CROW braking and full span camber control/full span ailerons really opens up the flight envelope.

Great review and great flying, Adam. Spektrum AR637T is a great telemetry receiver, especially with the ease of being able to program AS3X from the NX8, in my case. Two areas of receiver installation I had problems with were hooking up the voltage leads somewhere. Pushing them into the battery plug has not worked. Other issue is securing the receiver to the airplane which is important. You did not talk about that and installed yours with the plugs facing aft. Great for getting antennas away from interference heading forward, but how do you plug and unplug servos into the receiver after it is secured? Thanks for all your help.
@ModelAV8RChannel
Жыл бұрын
Hey Robert! Thanks very much. To hook up the voltage leads (if I do it) I usually cut the connector off and solder on a a new connector. I can easily solder the Rx voltage leads into that as i do it. I use servo tape to install the RX. If I need to change a servo I can just cut it loose with a hobby knife and just re-do the servo tape installation.

Yeah Jim a lot of planes are done that way. They usually don't have a very long tube though as they can't really. I have many models that way. The ASW 28 has thin wings and very long rods, so not a possibility with it.

@@ModelAV8RChannel Thanks so much for the link!!! Wow, $28 for the adapter. I guess it is better than paying $60 for a new Avian SMART Esc, but that still stings :( Yeah, I know that I shouldn't fly with Spektrum gear if I want to save $$$'s on RC gear
@ModelAV8RChannel
Жыл бұрын
@@marinrealestatephotography You could also just use that as a guide to solder your own. Another easy way to do it would be to just cut the connector off of the esc and solder the telemetry wires into the new connector.
