I would always recommend undoing the filler first, you won't get caught out with a seized filler

I have the exact car and gearbox etc. I did this job on Sunday but I noticed another filler hole on top of the gearbox ( also 24mm, but only visible from the top battery side ). Furthermore, my Auris has a 24mm bolt and not an allen key type for filling. I am starting to think I could have messed up but on the plus side there is no way you can mess this job up. I was just curious about the extra filling hole I found. Another video reckons there are 3 different filler holes and 1 drain ( makes no sense but I actually found 3 filler holes all on the gearbox so I dont think I am mistaking them for something else ( can't find diagrams anywhere )

Yeah I think mine had been changed before and they swapped the filler plug for the drain plug and vice versa. Likely the Allen would be on the drain side and the 24mm should be on the filler side.

Hello I can see you have used 75W-85, but which gearbox you have? I have same car with 6speed petrol. Do you know which oil is best. Thanks

This is a 6 speed manual petrol. 👍🏼

This is the oil that is listed for this gearbox. I highly recommend the oil that comes in bags like this. Far easier and less messy than pumping it in.

@@ChromeFlakes Actually toyota recommends SAE 75W oil not 75W80 or 75W90. The specification of these oils is clearly different but I don't know what effect this has on performance

Hi i took it the garage the only filled up 2litre and said itself full and dripping out. But should it be 2.5l?

maybe not all oil was drained, eg some old oil is left in the filter. actually gearbox expands on hot engine so its better to fill as much as was drained

@@KARALISinc when they drained it was there watching the whole thing only like a Quarter of a litre came out of it literally nothing was in there. cowboy mechanics didnt clean the hole well with something I see people use some sort of sprays on YT, also seen opening the filling hole socket and lowering the car back down helps get rid any remaining old oil inside the gearbox. The oil that which came out looked not bad extremely dark or completely gone so the new oil shouldn’t be be effected as much mixing with the old oil (if any little amount was lift inside). What bothers me, I saw on a toyota forum that 2.5litre it is needed for the gearbox oil change on my car model, but they said its 2litre they presume things general or what cause all cars not same. the cowboy mechanic supposedly filled 2litre with a fluid extraction filling syringe kit vacuum pump which makes it easier to pour it in that tight space, I saw his last pump he didnt get it in the hole maybe properly and it fall around the edge hence it was dripping out down a little and mechanic said its full. But he was pouring and pumping the oil in too fast maybe it wasnt given time to settle in hence it dripped down little amount. Whatever the case I certainly wasn’t 2litre let alone 2.5. It was more like 1.7-1.9 was filled up so it’s well short. But luckily I seen how the process works and done and it’s not rocket science so, ordered myself 24mm socket spanner, got couple of car jacks in the garage in my backyard, so am gonna try fill another 0.5litre myself and see how it behaves. Then I’ll update :)
