I asked the dealer the same question. It’s a new car model and is still getting a foothold in the market. Even though it’s been a top seller in Japan, the car in the video is a 2023 model not much difference between the 23 in the 24 year models. They are out there but they are hard to get and they sell quickly. Where I live I’ve only seen three others in town I have the newest one. 2024 the car promotes itself aside from advertisements in videos that are on KZitem. for me just driving it around town. I’ve had quite a few compliments and lots of looks. But as I mentioned being a new car model, they’re hard to get and they sell quickly. I have the XLe model and it does me just fine. 41 MPG . It does not break any speed records, but is definitely not a turtle.

I've been getting a lot of nice compliments and some "what car is that??" conversations. That said, I've seen someone else driving one about 3 times in the last few years. Hopefully more people like me were holding out for incentive rates.

I just bought a Platinum. I love it but for a few minor annoyances. For the amount I paid for it in SoCal I would expect the hood to open up and stay up by itself. The trunk should have the newer feature of being able to open without having to physically lift it up. There are tons of other computerized features that are not the easiest to master and some customizations that the dealership has to perform if the owner wants those features. And what’s up with the colors this season!? It is nearly impossible to get any color where I am except the gray colors with black interior. The colors are meh anyway, but why can’t they offer the classic lighter gray interior? The black interior gets very hot.

I sell Toyotas at Tufankjian Toyota of Braintree in Braintree, MA. I purchased a 2024 XLE in Oxygen White in early February, and our dealership has sold several of these. It really is a vehicle you have to show to the right customer. One issue we have is that we are not getting many XLE's or Limiteds, and some customers do not want everything that comes with the Platinum. AWD is standard on this vehicle, which may make it more popular where we can get the slippery white stuff, and TSS 3.0, with Proactive Driving Assist, which virtually makes it impossible to rear end the vehicle in front of you! The interior feels like a quality tweed cloth and personally I prefer cloth to leather, and the sides of the seats are bolstered and covered with Softex. Don't forget that the mileage #'s are phenomenal, because of the hybrid system.

Crown has been a leader in Japan. I just test drove the Limited today with my husband. We were looking for a 4 door sedan, hybrid, leather, easy in easy out for our aging and tall family. My husband is 6’2” and fit. His first complaint was the drowning sound it makes when you accelerate- it also felt like it was dragging. He hated it 2 min in! (I should say he’s a Honda dealer ). I tried it, very comfortable! I like the display ease of use, felt like I was hugging the road. I also like the fast back look! Should have been a sports back, make the moon roof open. At the end of the test drive my husband thought the car was too tight regarding headroom and his leg comfort behind the wheel was a bit too tight. I really wanted this to work out. He was pushing for a test drive for weeks. I’m thinking the platinum might interest his driving experience but that price… I personally love the crown and prefer the 1 color. I trust Toyota and their hybrid models.

OK Bryan, let me tell you a story… My wife wanted to look at SUVs so we went to a nearby Toyota dealer to look at the Grand Highlander for her. In the lot next to it was a Crown. I had no idea what I was looking at. The salesperson gave me the basics, and I was intrigued by its looks. I went home, researched it, and went back a few days later to test-drive it as a car for myself. They had a Limited and a Platinum ready for me. I brought a friend who was a real car guy. He’s been driving luxury brands for years, and he’s always up for car shopping. We took the Limited for a ride first. It stickered in the $49,000 range. My impression of the engine and drivetrain was that it was very buzzy. I hadn’t spent much time driving with a CVT transmission, and after a few minutes in the Limited, I determined it wasn’t for me at all. It did not feel anything like what I thought an almost $50,000 car would feel like. When we got back to the dealership, I was ready to leave. My friend suggested we go ahead and drive the Platinum because it was right there waiting for us. As soon as we started driving, I couldn’t believe how much better it felt than the Limited. That Hybrid Max system with the conventional 6-speed transmission and 340 hp turbo engine/electric motor system was wonderful. We drove the same route and I felt the difference between the $49k Limited and the $55k Platinum was like night and day. He felt the same way. Back at the dealership, we sat in the car and started to critique the interior. The best word we could find to describe it was that it was “fine.” Fit and finish was excellent, but it didn’t feel like a $55,000 car. Headliner, black. Dashboard, black. Seats, black. Just a thin line of contrasting bronze trim. There wasn’t a lot of padding on the dash and doors. The Camry XLE next to it had an as nice or better-looking interior. My friend felt that the Crown’s interior did not match the price point. I had to agree with him, but I still really liked it and wasn’t ready to give up. We were now inside the dealership looking at the model on the floor. I pressed the trunk release and heard a click, but the trunk didn’t go up. I was confused. When I went to the back, I realized that I had to manually lift the trunk lid. When I’m leaving Costco with a box full of stuff, I shouldn’t have to think about how I’m going to get an elbow under the trunk lid to pop it up. Next, I pulled on the hood release. The latch was easy to find and when I pushed up the hood, I was expecting it to stay up, but no. I had to look around for the metal stick to pull down from the hood and place it in the slot in the frame. Are you kidding me? Toyota’s quasi-luxury car that’s replacing the Avalon has a freaking hood prop? It's not a Corolla. But I still liked the car and even brought my wife back with me to drive both. She liked how the Platinum drove, but she said the inside looked like a “tomb" and thought $55,000 was a lot of money for that car. She wasn’t wrong, and the cheap feeling trunk and hood still bugged me. My buddy suggested I look at a one- or two-year-old “real” luxury car. Maybe something German or even a Lincoln or Genesis. I never buy used, but I opened my mind up to it. Four weeks later I bought a two-year-old Genesis GV80 with 16,000 miles. It still had 3 years and 44,000 miles left on the bumper-to-bumper warranty. The car is beautiful inside and out, has a huge list of features, and an incredible ride. Taking advantage of the fact that luxury cars depreciate quickly, I got it for under $47k which was more than $21k under its original sticker. I think Toyota blew it. I was so close to buying that Platinum, but for the money, it fell short. They made me reconsider my options. In my opinion, this is what Toyota should do. Start the XLE at $35k. With a cloth interior and that buzzy powertrain, that price feels about right. The Limited with its standard upgrades should start at $41k, and make the Platinum a plug-in hybrid and start it at $48k. Give us some kind of contrasting interior colors. And for god’s sake, spend a few extra yen on a gas spring for the hood and some kind of cheap, mechanical spring mechanism for the trunk. The value just isn’t there for the Crown. I really liked the car and want Toyota to be successful with it, but right now with the total lack of promotion and the previously mentioned shortcomings, it’s going to be tough. One more thing, that sexy, new 2025 Camry is going to directly compete with those Crown buyers. Maybe that's why a dealer just offered me an XLE for $2k under the invoice for my son. At that price, I'm thinking about it.
@djplonghead5403

We are looking at a limited and they will do 44k for it. That seems reasonable but I still think the Avalon had a cooler-looking interior. I personally like the Crown's odd exterior- looks better in person than on screen. It makes more sense to get a 25 Camry than a crown. Spending about 4k less and getting very similar features (except maybe heated rear seats), more MPG, opening sunroof, etc. I would still rather have the Crown because it looks different- and that is the only reason.

1) Too expensive 2) Too ugly. The price has to drop about 15-20K on these and that takes care of #1. Number 2, it has no identity. It wants to be 3-4 vehicles in one. So it does not fit anywhere and that makes it ugly. So honestly, Toyota needs to kill this Crown, update the Avalon and bring it back.

My husband and I were out yesterday to test drive a 2021/22 Lexus RX350. (We’re looking at these particularly for the V6 engine). I already own a 2015 Nissan Murano which I love but really wanted heated seats. I was never considering a sedan or passenger vehicle bc I prefer to sit up higher. My husband pointed out a vehicle someone was driving and asked what I thought. It was a Toyota Crown (couldn’t see the name but my car-savvy husband knows most vehicles) but I was smitten. He suggested that we go to a Toyota dealership and test drive. They only had the base model (forgot what it’s called) so we test drove that. I flipping LOVED it. From the moment you sit behind the wheel, the seat felt like warm hug. My husband’s seat was the same. The only drawback I could see when test driving was that you could hear the engine when you accelerated at a fast rate. The pick-up was quick, the steering very responsive, and this ride was so smooth and quiet feeling virtually no road bumps. (We test drove a new Venza last year and liked it until we drove on a bumpy highway, then it was loud inside the cabin and not impressive at all). This was nothing like that. We’ve been looking for the better part of a year for just the right vehicle and this is it. Ps. It turns out, my husband showed me a picture of the crown last year and I said, “Ew. No.” LOL! The photos of this gem do NOT do it justice. GREAT video, by the way, Brian, thank you so much!

I looked at both the Crown and Camry, and when you look at the features list of a fully loaded Camry vs the base Crown, not only is the Crown more expensive but it's missing a lot of tech that's only in the top trim. I haven't driven a Crown so maybe it just rides that much better, but features-wise this thing is really overpriced I feel in comparison. I like features like the HUD and on the Crown it's only in the top trim even though the base model costs more than the optioned out XLE Camry that has it. Also subjective but I think the new teal on the 2025 Camry looks incredible as well as the redesign styling, I think it's just a better looking car (to me). I can honestly see why dealers are having to cut prices on these to even a bit under MSRP, I wouldn't buy one at sticker price either. At the price this thing is I could start looking at the Lexus ES 300h for example and I think a lot of people in that price range are going for Lexus instead. It feels like a car without a market for it IMO.

Price and lack of marketing. The Crown with the smaller engine gets slightly less fuel economy than a 2021 Avalon, but has all wheel drive which the Avalon does not have. I love my 2021 Avalon Limited, but if it weren't available I probably would have gone with a Crown Limited with the smaller engine if it were more affordable. When you go up to the larger engine in the Crown the fuel economy drops so much it doesn't seem like it is a hybrid. A 27mpg hybrid doesn't make sense. I easily get 43mpg in my Avalon, which is better than what I was getting with my 2007 Prius and the Avalon has significantly more power than the Prius had. The Avalon was a somewhat affordable luxury car. The Crown is an overpriced car that isn't really a luxury car or a sports car, but tries to be both and may not appeal to the buyers of either. The Crown in this video is significantly less equipped, but higher priced than what I paid for my loaded Avalon Limited.

In the market for a car, now. Test drove the Limited, yesterday, and I am impressed with the vehicle. But I've never seen an ad of any type in any media for it, and I live in the NY metro area, where ad placement was invented! The car has comfortable seating, especially for the driver; great acceleration, thanks to the electric motors; AWD,; it's quiet enough; very eyecatching; leather seats; but the trunk thing is weird---even the salesmen couldn't find how to open it. There is significant body roll, so it's not a sporty car, though it looks like stylistically, and it is a very comfortable ride, and you are elevated compared to other sedans out there, thanks to that semi-crossover design. I'm going to next test drive a Lexus ES, which is similarly priced, and I can get as a hybrid with similar range and gas mileage. But the Lexus has no AWD (only in the 250), and no split fold down seats in the the rear of it, either. Being in the Northeast, that AWD may tip me back toward the Crown. You can NOT find better gas mileage in a hybrid that what this Crown has to offer. Given that it also runs on regular gas, I think Toyota should be trumpeting the fuel efficiency, incredible range of nearly 600 miles, and the ease of driving and comfort of this car. If they were to just tweak a few things (like that trunk opening!), invest more in some targeted promotion, they could move the needle on getting this car out the door and into customer's hands. Also, I undestand they have a Crown Signia coming, which will be an actual crossover, and that might be more appealing in today's market. Good luck!

I like the look of the Crown much more than the Camry OR prior Avalon. Toyota engineers did a great job with styling. I also like the 4" higher stance as well and AWD. This is a car I definitely will consider. Besides not promoting this car, the cost is also an issue. And, at a $41K new price point, most people expect Leather Seats. The high end version can run over $55K, and makes it higher than the average buyer wants to pay. The Toyota Venza 2024 is a great SUV, which Americans love, and costs less to buy. When it is replaced with the SUV version of the Crown next year, I hope they keep the cost down.

It doesn't sell because no one asked for. The Platinum trim has 340 hp and 400 lb/ft of torque and does 0-60 in 6 seconds. The 2022 Avalon TRD has a NA V6 with 301 hp and 267 lb/ft of torque and does 0-60 in 6 seconds too. The TRD also is about $10,000 cheaper. C'mon Toyota!

The price as you mentioned. They should have just put the V6 Hybrid engine or plug-in engine in a Limited and the hybrid Maxx engine in the XLE for the price Toyota is asking. People can sense were Toyota went cheap and decided to cheat the people in terms of horsepower. In a 4300 lb car you need a V6 hybrid non-turbo. This goes the same with the Crown Insignia wagon. They need a V6 hybrid in that vehicle if you are asking for that kind of money at least make it an option. They should not have gotten rid of the Toyota Venza for the Crown as there was room for both. All this talk about taking sales away from Lexus Lexus needs to keep their hands off of Toyota products in upscaling them. Lexus is cannibalizing everything Toyota has.

The problem is people are stupid. You could make the perfect house for human inhabitation that’s carbon neutral sustainable self sufficient etc etc and people won’t live in it because it’s ugly. You could make the perfect car and people won’t buy it because it’s not cool. When dealing with dumb emotional creatures there’s no predicting nor explaining what works or not and why.

Dear Toyota -- I would love to spend a lot of money on a beautiful car, whether badged Toyota or Lexus, but all of your premium models insist on the panoramic sunroof which I have a dozen reasons to avoid, and I don't want black leather. Everything is black leather interior. STOP! I live in a very hot humid area of the Gulf Coast and I don't want to burn my biscuits every time I get into my car in between April and October. Please give me the option to have a premium car with light colored ventilated seats and a normal sunroof/moonroof. Not everything has to emulate a Tesla. I don't want a Tesla. I don't want a glass roof. (Sorry to sound desperate at this point, but I've been car shopping for weeks and have been disappointed at every turn. I start to get excited and then find out everything is black leather and glass roof. Gah!)

We had a 2007 Avalon Limited, which I loved. We test drove a 2023 Crown…no comparison. Loved our Avalon much better. The Crown was smaller inside, noisy and not the best ride. I drive an ES 350 2019 and saw my first Crown in the supermarket lot, and my reaction was “what is that, it looks so good!!! Had to go look and drive and was not disappointed! Quite for one, and not as quite as my V-6 ES but damn close. Sits higher and asking in and out so much easier. Built in Japan, reputation and track record is good. This is a value for sure, and with the 2025 the heated/vent seats are now standard. Did drive a Crown with the larger wheels and di not ride as well. Hard to even think about trading in my ES that has 28,000 miles and is all paid for, moreover this makes the move more compelling than ever. The Signia should also be a great option too! To trade or not to trade?? What say you Bryan???

I have owned Toyotas for over 20 years and never even heard of the Crown until I started researching the 2025 Camry. I just bought the 2024 Crown XLE last week because I got a great deal since they aren't selling. I absolutely love it! I think they aren't selling since no one knows they exist. Also, there is such a large price difference between the different trims, mentally you might feel like you are getting a bottom of the barrel car wuth the XLE when that is not actually the case. I just didn't see the value in paying extra for the Limited or Platinum features.

I bought a new 2023 Crown XLE in February 2024 after my wonderful 2014 Avalon Hybrid was totaled. I actually had never seen or heard of a Crown before I bought 1. I never even seen a Crown advertised before! The Crown is very stylish with a very comfortable ride. I only test drove an XLE. I didn’t want to pay for the more expensive models. My Hybrid Avalon had more horsepower than the XLE Crown but it has a good amount of power & it has a great tight ride. I’m happy with it, though it does not come with a CD PLAYER. I have so many CDs so now I usually only listen to SiriousXM Radio. It has a very roomy truck. All Crowns are AWD & are Hybrids. The XLE is great on gas. I would prefer leather seats but the cloth seats have grown on me. The Avalon gave me more for my money, but I’m now happy & satisfied with the Crown!

I had a 2014 Avalon limited. It was basically a Lexus ES. It was elegant, classic looks and most importantly it had a quiet V6 and a real transmission. The Crown is now a semi suv. The front end is outright ugly. And now being a hybrid only, it comes with a CVT transmission that drones. I also had a 2019 Lexus ES with the V6, next year it will follow suit like the crown....and will be ruined. I sat in the new crown. The consol moves, the center hatch between the seats is cheap and flimsy. And it looks like the backseat lost leg room.

Remove the Hybrid system. Electronic suspension works okay within limits. Lower the price, and sell a hundred thousand of them. Maybe go crazy and put in a six speed manual, although not likely. It looks well built. It looks like it would survive a crash well, that’s very important. SUV’s are a stupid design. I’ve never liked them. These look mature, proper for one’s age, any age.

you had me at "BLOATED." To old geezers like myself the Crown was the penultimate Toyota. A car a president of a Japanese Company was chauffer-driven in to work. An homage to the Mercedes 600. Such a man would never be seen in this amalgamation of nothing. Plastic side panels for door trim under the grandpa rub strips on the doors? just plain Nasty. plastic wheel arch protectors? Does it come with plastic pocket protectors for you pens too? Oh, i know what they should of called it: "The Graduate!" ("one word for the future Benjamin....PLASTIC!") Consumer Reports said the Avalon outluxuried it's Lexus counterpart. No worries from Lexus about that happening with this Crown! I'm sorry i was chasing my last Tundra (the V8) at the time the Avalon died. I chose wisely, but i wish the Avalon had been replaced by a Toyota luxo-cruiser, instead of a "i am Crown but i am so confused": Suv? Seedan, cloth interior (eeeeyou!) for the kiddies inside, Camry or Highlander upgrade/downgrade? NO hatchback for the walmart grocery getting? And no crawl control. If I want an AWD, i want one that can dig itself out of sand with crawl control like the dear departed Land Cruiser (watch that video sometime.) The FJ Cruiser had crawl control 10 years ago. I owned five of them from 2007 to 2014. That was a real made in Japan gem. Why isn't crawl control on all AWD Toyotas today? I had a 2018 RAV4 AWD; i slid off my driveway on the ice. Real false sense of security with the "AWD" moniker. Toyota has made some goodies, but this Crown is a broken crown. Drop the price $10k more to where a Corolla buyer is making a choice and this dodo bird might sell. You can always make it up on the dealer financing, ha ha.

I spent 59,000 and its been in the shop 4 months of the last 15 months they just replaced the head unit, struts are bad, windows make air noise window is squeaking, doesn't get the milage they said, brakes have acted weird, hybrid revs, interior plastic get filthy ( I do have a car washer for every week), had one of may side panel plastics melt, and yea... just overall a beautiful exterior and A JUNK CAR!

Nothing complicated here! Even Avalon didn't sell well mainly attracting older buyers. Moreover, if you seat in the back seat of the new Crown and you are 5'11 or taller, your head will uncomfortablely touch the headliner. The design is a bit radical and the fit and finish (ex. gaps between plastic panels and other metal panels in the back) is not what one would expect from a Japan-built Toyota. More specifically, the well-built Toyotas like 4Runner etc. are built in the Tahara factory. This one isn't. The 2025 Camry is overall a much better deal in many ways and makes it harder for Crown to find a huge following.

I ordered/bought the first Crown that was delivered to my Littleton CO dealer in March 2023. It's metallic grey, just like the one in the video, but the Limited model. It was pricey, and I took a risk buying a car never seen in person, but having owned several Toyotas I was confident it would be a good purchase. Am I happy with my purchase? Absolutely! I love this car! Stunning looks, amazing mileage for a car this size, and very comfortable. Does it seem odd that I've only ever seen two others on the road since I bought it? Yes. I agree with the other's comments; the price point seems a bit high, and I don't think Toyota did a good job advertising it. And although the interior is nice, comfortable, and well designed, I am a bit disappointed that it doesn't feel quite as "luxurious" as a $50K car should. I just had the 15K service done, and not a hint of trouble. As far as the rarity of Crowns on the road, I feel that's a plus! I like owning something unique. I believe a lot of people that are buying entry level BMWs, Lexus, etc. are missing out on a really great car. I wonder how they sell in Japan? Probably a lot better than here!

I own that same exact car and it’s absolutely amazing the ride is so smooth and quiet. The gas mileage is awesome the 14 gallon tank is super cheap to fill up and it lasts me around 3 weeks before the next fill up. The adaptive cruise control is awesome. The only things I wish I would have gotten was the panoramic sunroof and the premium sound. Other than that I would totally buy this car again. The biggest problem with this car is Toyotas marketing on this car prior to buying it I had never heard of it and never seen one on the road I think if they started to market it like they do the Camry or the Corolla it would probably do a lot better. This car has been in production in Japan since the 50’s and it’s been a big seller. Now I’m hearing they are coming out with the crown signia why produce an SUV version of a car you don’t even market the sedan version of it. Since I purchased my crown I’ve only seen 2 other cars on the street which I kinda like cause I feel somewhat unique. I highly recommend people check this car out it’s pretty amazing to drive.

I bought a magnet gray 2024 XLE. Earlier, I was looking at a used white 2023. The huge grill really stuck out on that color. I kept checking with other dealers and was able to get a new 2024 at a comparable price. Other reviewers pan the overall look and mainly test the loaded model that gets bad gas mileage in comparison. I've seen it called a grandpa car, and it is that demo that talks to me at parking lots. I thought the Avalon was stogey and like the new look. At sticker, the fully loaded version is close to a Lexus, but the closest Lexus dealer is over 100 miles away.

There isn't really just one "problem" but I think the biggest is the price. You can get a better optioned car in the camry or the sonata hybrid for equal or lesser money than the xle crown. For me though, I want the Japanese build quality, the height, and the exclusivity of the crown, but I would go for the limited any day off the week. That's the trim level that IS selling, because they're actually more difficult to find
