Had two Camry Hybrids that I took to 160k miles and 150k miles respectively. 1st was totaled when I got rear ended. 2nd I traded in when my wife wanted something new. Both were wonderful cars and incredibly reliable. That is ZERO problems. And not a hint of reduced efficiency due to battery wear, although I realized I was probably getting toward the end of battery life. Another thing to mention on those cars (2009 and 2012) while Toyota called their transmission CVT, it was for lack of a better term. The transmission was actually one set of planetary gears that stayed engaged all the time. No wear components like you’d get in a traditional transmission (CVT or otherwise) so I saw that as a reliability trade off with the battery. The best cars I’ve owned.

I'm vacationing in Japan at the moment, I saw one of these new Toyota Crowns in Yokohama city just three days ago. A fine looking car, if you can come to terms with the "unique" body paint scheme. It's a Toyota so it'll be a good'un. Many years ago, (1975), I owned a 1963 Crown wagon with the 2.0 litre 3R engine, then a 1969 Crown wagon with a 2.3 litre straight six they were both "brilliant" vehicles and were great to drive.

As a Camry Hybrid owner for several years, I can speak to benefits and downsides. Benefits are with in city and rolling hill suburban driving fuel economy. The downsides are fuel economies with long distance and mountain drives. The small 4 cylinder engines are not efficient in those conditions. Very cold weather increases fuel consumption as the system tries to bring the engine and hybrid electric systems up to optimal operating temperatures. Two cooling systems and the long term battery maintenance or replacement have increased maintenance costs. I have paid them. Current internal combustion engines achieve the same or better fuel economies as my decade and a half old Camry hybrid, without the downsides. My replacement will most likely be a conventional internal combustion engine in a sedan or crossover. My winter fuel costs will be better by 15-18%.

The MSRP is going to kill this really nice vehicle in the USA when the soccer mom crowd is buying up pickup trucks, full sized SUVs and Wranglers. Full sized sedans might as well be a minivan in the young American driver's eyes. $50,000 for a car? Not going to happen and they are already piling up at Toyota dealerships. I may consider one in a year or 2 with steep discounts or folks get laughed at by their friends for driving a grandma's car and trade it in on a Chevy Tahoe to keep up with the Jones.

These are different. Cars today is are sportier and far less comfortable in general. I have chronic pain and trying to find a comfortable newer car that isn't brutally expensive is very hard. Everyone wants the handling and stiff suspension. I want a soft seat and suspension. Roominess is less important. I don't care about horsepower or handling. I've driven a Chrysler New Yorker - it was my first car. I loved it. If Toyota had a truly comfortable car these days like that, I'd buy one. Zoomers have ruined everything.

The Crown is basically replacing the Avalon. Contemporary Designations mean nothing to me. If I were to have seen a RAV 4 back in the 60s, I would have called it a station wagon. Many of today’s so-called SUVs and Crossovers are simply the renamed Panel Trucks of my youth. The mechanical and technological aspects are far different (and far more costly), but the style is essentially similar. When Jeep came out with the Wagoneer (1960s?), we teenaged car-nuts saw it more as a Panel Truck than a Station Wagon. Most automotive aficionados would not call the Crown a Crossover. When I first saw one on the Showroom floor, I saw it as a sporty, four-door sedan. I think we are getting much too concerned with nomenclature, and losing track of what exactly we are driving.

I have owned a 2012 Prius C since it was brand new. It now has 155,000 miles on it and the mpg is still the same as it has always been. I have changed the oil regularly and have had to do the brake pads once, at about 115,000 miles. I have had the regular maintenance done such as changing the transmission fluid and I had the spark plugs changed at about 105,000 miles for the first time. The only real repair I had to have done was a replacement of the steering rack and front bushings. The only other repair was replacing the front headlights sometime in the 95,000 mile range, and I think I have replaced two taillight bulbs. I do have to replace the windshield wipers and windshield wiper fluid sometimes! And I have to replace the gasoline. It gets now, and has always gotten about 52 miles per gallon on average in warmer weather and just 48 miles per gallon or so in colder weather here in the Northeastern US. I’m going to keep it until it needs some expensive repair, which will hopefully be far off in the future.

Why this direction. The car companies always saying last 100K-200K. Yep and then practically have to take a long new to buy new battery. They are also too complex and expensive. Not sure believe the surveys that say hybrid are long lasting and dependable. Except for the Prius no other hybrids have been around that long. BTW 1993 Camry with 305K miles. Most of the taxis i saw in japan a month ago were older late 1980s toyota crowns. All in excellent clean condition. I saw 1 new camray as a taxi. So there is an automatic pool of new taxi buyers

Scotty is being conversative when he said the traction Battery lasts to 150K miles. I run a used car dealership strictly dealt with Toyota and Lexus I've seen the hybrid battery lasted beyond 300K miles and is still getting good MPG.

I don’t see a CROWN in the US, but other part of the world. I’ve never seen one. My dad had one in HK in the 80’s. I love the ones from the 70’s, 80’s and the 90’s… 🎉
