The car is good but many owners are complaining about spare tire theft which usually hangs below the trunk, if Toyota can create a tire well on the inside of the cars boot and still cover it well, Many owners would relax on the issue.

I’m in the USA and own an FJ40. These new Land Cruisers are amazing but have become niche vehicles because they’re so expensive and luxurious and have no diesel option. For less money you could get a high spec Ford F-250 crew cab diesel with 450hp and 1000 lb ft of torque, better fuel mileage, and would tow my FJ40 like it wasn’t even there.

Hi Tom great vid you summed the 200 up well ,every choice of vehicle has comprises and 200 is no exception. But by the time production ceases the LC 200 has been made for 14 years & selling in excess of 10,000 per year and still selling well. The LC eat the miles up and tows very well with reliability and great resale value. Nissan shot themselves in the foot by failing to produce a modern diesel in cars sold in Australia. Cheers Ian.

@chasingcars

VX is $100k (a pretty reasonable step over GXL for the extra luxury) and then Sahara is $120k. Patrol’s poor urban ride quality and cheap cabin would spoil it for me, though the super inexpensive price means it does make sense. Let’s say you get it for $30k cheaper than a similar spec LC200... that buys a lot of petrol to fuel the Nissan.

Good job as usual Tom. I have a 15 Prado I'm replacing. The 200 series I am considering as I have a 3T boat I'm about to buy. With Prado finally gaining the 3T towing capacity in Aus, the 200 series isn't necessary, but the V8 diesel would sure be handy over the asthmatic 2.8 Prado. Comparing the Prado GXL features with 200 series GXL, I am really struggling to see value in $30k extra for the 200 series. That extra size, drivetrain etc is well paid for by the $30k premium, but then sucking all the niceties out of the 200 series GXL compared to the Prado shows what great value the Prado is. To get a similar feature set you need to eat the eye watering $120k price tag for the 200 Sahara and thats almost double the price of the Prado. It makes the prospect of importing a RAM, Sierra, F150 far more appealing given similar pricing as the 200 Sahara, and that's with the RHD conversion done.
@chasingcars
5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate - you raise a number of good points there. Let me address them in turn. 1. If I was planning to tow a three-tonne boat I would be giving the Prado a miss. Yes, its towing capacity is now 3000kg and its gross combination mass is rated to 5990kg, but my colleague Phil Lord from Carsales reported that with a 2800kg caravan on the back he was dropping from 90kmh to 70kmh at full throttle on long inclines, and fuel use when towing was pretty bad. That does not sound like fun to me. 2. LC200 will naturally be a more relaxed tow vehicle - a 3000kg boat leaves 500kg room to spare on the 200's towing capacity and the big V8 will eat up the inclines. The question is value for money, as you point out. 3. I'd give the LC200 GXL a miss generally and only really look at the VX. Over the Prado VX, the LC200 VX is a $26k upgrade - a lot of money, no doubt about it, and you miss out on the full Safety Sense package on the big Cruiser. However, you gain the V8, more towing capacity, side steps, a tailgate that opens up and not out, four-zone climate, a sunroof, a much bigger touchscreen, and some extra off-roading tech toys. Is that all worth $27k? That is up to you. If it was me? I'd probably buy a runout Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI, which can tow 3500kg and produces the same sort of outputs as the LC200 from a six-cylinder diesel. There are a number of MY18 Touareg demos out there for under $80k and these things are just way better than a Prado. A number of high-end dual-cab utes are also worthy of consideration, like the Ranger 3.2L or the Amarok V6. What do you think of those options?
@TheCameraGear
5 жыл бұрын
Interesting point of view Tom, here are my thoughts on yours if I may; 1. I agree, the Prado whilst well equipped is seriously let down with the engine output if you live anywhere near hills and need to tow heavy things. It certainly wouldn't be fun. 2. Again agree, the LC200 will tow heavy things in a more relaxed manner and still has a little room to spare at three tonnes, however value in my eyes is far from there. 3. The LC200 VX compared to the Prado VX is a little bit of an unnecessary comparison, and to be fair the difference will be more than $26k in reality, because even in VX grade, the LC200 doesn't have all that the GXL Prado has if you add the heated/cooled leather trim option (full retail $3500). The Prado also has steps in GXL grade, and even if it did it is a massive price jump for not much more than a drive train upgrade and increased towing capacity. I would buy the LC200 in VX for the extra cost over the LC200 GXL as there is some merit in the extra inclusions for the spend. 4. Interesting you noted the Touraeg in the 3L TDI, and I appreciate that tip. I wasn't aware it could do the towing duty, given I also have a Q7 that is limited to 2200kg braked and I guessed being the biggest from VAG, if it couldn't then none of the wagons they produce could. It is a worthwhile consideration. With regard to the Amarok, it is way too utilitarian, lacks safety features, ride quality and many features of the Prado GXL but costs the same. I have no use or desire for an agricultural ute based ride so Rangers et al are all out.

Yeah, though in the scorching heat of the outback, if you’re going to have leather you’ll at least want the ventilation feature. Cloth makes sense out there! @chasingcars
5 жыл бұрын
It is relatively affordable *for this segment* - that segment is full-size 4x4 wagons with large displacement engines. Not dual cabs. Not dual cab based wagons. Compare the LC200 GXL at $90k to a Sahara at $120k, the Infiniti QX80 at $110k, the Lexus diesel at $134k. The Y62 Patrol is good value, however.
@arefeshghi
5 жыл бұрын
@@chasingcars Yes. Of course, in the video I didn't hear a 'for this segment'. The competitions you mentioned are basically from the same company except QX80 but that's fine because at the end of the day, they are the competition. However, even if it is relatively affordable in comparison to other competitors (despite the fact that it lacks basic features for this price including for example electric seats), as I mentioned, cars are still overpriced in Australia and it is almost impossible for an ordinary person to buy a new or even relatively old LC200.
