Great talk. I know Tracey's a very fine writer, she's engagingly articulate in real life too.

Her album Tinsel and Lights is my favorite Christmas album. It's a joyful, depressing, heartbreaking, fun, uplifting time. It's hard to explain; how it makes me feel inside but I play it over and over during the holidays. JOY! ❤

I never really thought about it before, but I've always preferred bands that included women. That's not really a surprise since I prefer the company of women in most cases. I was even the drummer in a band whose other members were all women and I quite enjoyed being the odd man out, though I had some difficulty discerning when I should intervene on the other band members' behalves and when I should just STFU. I eventually learned to STFU unless asked to intervene. That's a lesson that's served me well in life. I hope that our society will continue to make more creative space for amazing artists who just happen to be women, like Tracy.

Most of these comments just prove one of Tracey Thorn's sharp insights in this interview: That a woman speaking up for herself is seen as "complaining," "emotional," or "she must wear the pants in the relationship" by people who don't actually respect women or see them as human beings.

Never given true acclaim in the UK; she doesn't fit any mold or play the media game. Those songs speak for themselves though. I'm 63 and been a fan all my adult life. I'm glad she's not mainstream - it somehow makes it seem more special for the ones who did pay attention. 'Too Happy' from 'Distant Shore' has been my favourite piece of music since I first heard it...waaay back

To be honest, while Grant McLennan and Robert Forster are given a bad wrap, they foundered the Go-Betweens and could have insisted on having an all-male line-up. What they did was ground-breaking and offered Lindy an opportunity to play in something other than obscure punk bands.

JR T: I don't think so! They wouldn't have survived as a couple for nearly 40 years if it was so. They must share their house tasks as everyone involved in a sound relationship should do.

The irony is that while complaining about having to deal with predominantly male writers, women are notoriously known for tearing each other apart on looks etc. So they lady doth protest too much.
