Put a piece of masking tape on the top end of the barrel with a line on it and one in front of the fuse. Use these to aim and adjust them until you are hitting your targets consistently.

I love how we are willing to put a rifle or musket up against our faces and let them go boom, but as soon as a fuse is involved we all feel the need to get away fast! :)

I have the Old Ironsides .69 caliber by Traditions. These pack quite a whallop, and I love shooting it. I'm actually having someone make a yoke for the gun and I am going to turn it into a small swivel gun.

I looked up the Traditions, Old Ironsides .69 cannon. I would make a very rough estimate that the scale ship would have to be at least 30 feet in length.

Sorry for the delay, had to check. We're using 45 grains of simple FF black powder. You can use up to 80 or 85 grains, but it's just not necessary.

How loud are these cannons? I watch many videos of them and some are quiet, some loud. I'm looking for the loudest cannon I can get if I'm going to pay nearly a thousand for one. Does the sound depend on how much black powder is in it?
@Grarder
6 жыл бұрын
I don't have a decibel reading for you, but anything black powder is pretty loud. I can bring the meter with me next time we go out. If you were to use more powder though it would get louder. Bigger is better when it comes to volume level. We actually got this one at a pretty good discount. I think it was a display model. You might be able to find one cheaper than $1000. I want to say this one was around $500, but I don't remember for sure.

i just purchased an unopened cva .50 cal general custer cannon kit from 1979, ive contacted cva and they sold the rights back in 1990 so i contacted the new company and they have no record of this kit.... model #ka808, im been unable to find anything......but i havent assembled it simply because i want to know if its more valuable from being old and unused
@Grarder

That's a pretty cool find! I don't blame you for not assembling it; it might be more valuable as it currently sits. Hard to say. Sadly I don't know much of anything about those.

Where do you buy the .69 cal ammo?
@Grarder
6 жыл бұрын
I think we molded these using pure lead and a Lee mold, but don't remember for sure. Any store that carries black powder supplies should have balls though. 0.69 cal is the standard musket caliber so they're actually pretty common.

Awesome! You're welcome. We fire it infrequently, but yes. It's great for a laugh! We keep trying to contrive some laser bore sight to aim the thing. So far no luck, but I'll make another video if it ever actually works.

Grarder what do you use for cleaning the bore and also what ram rod? Ill be using pyrodex ffg, what powder are you using?
@Grarder
6 жыл бұрын
What we do is a bit weird, but very effective. You can remove the whole cannon from it's cart so we submerge the whole thing in a bucket of soapy water and scrub the bore with a 0.69 caliber bore brush on a pistol work rod. The brush with the water creates a good enough seal to really effectively clean out the touch hole and draw water into the barrel. We're using black powder though; I think ffg also. I've never used Pyrodex but I think this method would still work fine unless something about it's chemistry doesn't like water. It works great with cap type muzzle loaders as well you just also need a hose that fits well on the nipple. When it's clean, dry it up real good and add a light coat of oil to protect from corrosion.

such a waste of fuse, yall can cut it shorter ya know, especially if you are only going to sprint as fast as you can to get 5-10 feet away and then wait 10 seconds.
