Good stuff, one of the biggest barrier to good table time is how fun armwrestling is and how competitive people can be. People just want to go hard and have fun, often at the cost of optimised training.

Yeah it's really hard to have proper table practice. Going to practice is the best part, and not going hard *is* difficult. It definitely helps just getting stronger so you don't have to go hard that often, but it's a rough one to balance.

Imma do this at the next practice and everyone is going to think I'm crazy. I've thought the same thing and I'm glad I'm not the only one "the West is getting it's ass kicked because of this" is a perfect way to put it. I've been pulling for 2 years like a typical American. I think I'm gonna try a year of doing it this way and see where it takes me. Thanks Chris!

Dude this is great stuff. I had to stop a few times just to process how important all this information is for Armwrestling training (although I knew most of the information to some extent). Thanks and I’m off to change my training approach for the next year.

I started arm wrestling seriously since March 2022 of last year. What I came to understand from table time, the best sessions I had were when we actually trained together and we didn’t just try to pin each other. Also rehab and blood flow is really important I’ve come to realize. Table time is to condition yourself and sharpen your skills but Gym time is as important except if you start young and grow into the sport. Very good analysis my guy

Could you elaborate more on the last part? " Except if you start young and grow into the sport" part cause I turned 15 this April and I started armwrestling when I was 14 last year around November

Intelligent advice. I stopped going to arm wrestling practice because I had so many nagging injuries and my progression on my lifts stopped. I let those injuries heal and now I am hitting prs again. I don’t think the body can keep up with 2 hour training sessions weekly on top of heavy training in the gym.

It can when you are advanced, but the key is to not get pinned and to not redline. Taking control of your practice is on you.

Anything where you bend your wrist and pronate your forearm will help.

how often do you do table time? In a video Levan recommended not doing more than 1 hour of hard table time every two weeks.

In the weeks before a tournament I practice my setup and starts but don’t do any long hard table sessions ever except afterpulling at big events. When I’m not about to compete I don’t do much table time at all.

Dont you also think you need to sometimes pretty much max load to practice technique? Like I can do a technique an infinite amount of times on low loads but to really feel how it is and how it would look on the table u need to go max
@ChrisDrummondAW
Жыл бұрын
Sure, sometimes, but you have to do it for very low volumes and if your exercises are accurate enough, you probably don’t need that experience from table time all that frequently.

What if your technique is great but you just want more power on the table
@ChrisDrummondAW
Жыл бұрын
You’ll get power from armwrestling-specific gym workouts. If you have awesome technique then great, you probably don’t need much practice. Guys who only do table time will tend to get stronger slower than guys who train with measurable loads. Bad gym training won’t work well but good gym training will make your strength much better than typical practices can.

What you forgot to mention, is that a lot of guys have very bad losing positons. Arm totally open -> typical brachialis pain comes. Outside of shoulder and totally supinated arm -> typical pronator pain comes....
@kingwillie206

If you don’t get ripped open in the first place you can work on those positions in an intelligent manner. I never let anyone pull from bad positions around me because I know how stupid it is.
