As you get older, especially if you have been in physically demanding careers, you need to be realistic about what you want and what you can safely achieve. I spent 30 years in the military and emergency services and have always been active with only 1 main serious injury in the army causing me problems....a lot of damage to my torso, that also effects my lungs with constant infections. So my fitness is working around that injury and limitations, I can achieve a lot and I really think I am substantially fitter than most people my age. Hiking with packs on a regular basis, with a smattering of cycling and rowing, all around fitness with kettlebells and weights and doing a lot of construction work which is better than a gym workout.....stamina and strength with real world applications rather then going for a gym body.

That's fantastic that you've kept up your fitness levels over time, especially with injury/limitations to consider. Love the variety of activity! I've not thought about those that have had physically demanding careers and how that might impact them long-term - thanks so much for sharing!

Finding your channel has come at a good time for me even though it was for prepping. My weight has been creeping up over the years and needed a little motivation Thanks. I've been intermittently fasting and increased my physical work and exercise. I love your discipline and drive. My youngest son is home from uni for the summer and has asked me to join him at the gym so looking forward to that as is a first.

Yay this makes me happy to read that you're taking action and looking after yourself by increasing your workouts. Its lovely seeing parents work out with their adult kids in the gym - I hope you and your son both enjoy it!

Thanks Mike! I'd love to compete in a natural show late next year but not sure if that's realistic. Happy to wait as long as it takes - doing it for the before and after photos 😛

Bummer that your shoulder is still holding you back, but a good call to switch to lower half to give it a good rest. In that walk with the other girls, your shoulders did look good - I'm not quite sure on the rules for men looking at girls glutes 😎😎 How do you see the food / protein / exercise affecting what you prep, food wise ? as you must require a certain balance of carbs / fats / protein to build a display body

Everything works out as its meant to - even sports-related niggles and injuries! And I think so long as men can be respectful 👍 My protein food preps are poor to be honest. Plenty of lentils in the house if I'm really stuck! Carb supplies are in a good place, and fats are ok but could be better. No doubt my priorities will change if there is an emergency/incident/SHTF scenario that affects food supplies!

@@StrivingforSelfSufficiency But by then Eimear, it might be too late to get more in 😞 Farmer have been saying for ages that root veg will be an issue this year and we are having to import a lot more veg (carrots from China !!) to cover the bad crops this year, so the cost is going to rocket
