A very enjoyable hours session spent at Esher station on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway.
The station was opened in 1838 by the London and Southampton Railway oddly enough, it then came under the control of the London and South Western Railway. When the station was opened it was called Ditton Marsh, this was because the station was built on the wettest area of the Ditton area. The station is also in close proximity to Sandown Park Racecourse which during my stay here was playing host to a Go-Karting race which I could get a partially good view of from where I was standing.
You will notice that this station shares a similarity to Walton-on-Thames in that it has a closed central platform which still stands, it gives this station a nice character which so many now lack unfortunately.
My next station is Surbiton.
