Buses, mini-buses, trams, taxis - take your pick. Hong Kong trams have been in operation for probably 100 years. They are so cheap and so useful, no-one has ever suggested getting rid of them! They only run along a section of Hong Kong Island from East to West, going through the important Central District on the way. I used to love taking the tram when I worked in HK.

someone did suggest removing the tramlines as it occupies space on the road. But then luckily, the suggestion was declined as the tramways are historical.

Great video. Didn't know Hong Kong has 7-Elevens and Circle Ks. I saw a bus with a 7-Eleven ad, showing food with chop sticks. Ha! No chop sticks in a U.S. 7-Eleven. I thought the neighborhoods this tram passes through, while busy, are a bit rundown. I guess the more affluent sections don't have trams. Also many businesses have electric signs that extend well over the street. Also surprised at so many signs with no English.

I spoke too soon. After a few minutes, the tram does move into some affluent neighborhoods. Also I notice before a traffic light goes from red to green, the yellow comes on for a second or two. I guess it tells you to get ready to start moving. I never saw that elsewhere.

Thank-you for posting this video. It's so interesting to see the many changes in Hong Kong and remind myself of views I remember from 30 years ago. I still miss Hong Kong and its people and the sound of Cantonese. No, I didn't understand it but I always like to hear it. :-)

It depends what you associate the language with. I lived many happy years in Hong Kong so I associate the sound of the language with the pleasure of living alongside the HK Chinese people. I think I will always love them.

Trams in HK also have a nickname "DING DING". The name comes from that the tram driver will ring the bell which produces a sound "DING DING" when the tram approaches the station. We HongKonger all call the tram "DING DING" in our daily lives.

The tram line seems kind of inefficient. A lot of stops too close to another, gets stuck in traffic constantly and accelerates slowly. You could nearly beat it by simply walking around and you'll save money. If it's cheap, why not I guess. Wonder why they never went underground.

Thank you for uploading great landscape of tram view of Hong Kong. It looks like there are stations almost every 100 or 200 meters in distance, which bus transportation obviously seems to be a better choice for fast-paced people there. By the way though, what on earth is the alarm-bell sounding noise during the footage and other footages of yours?

Hong Kong still has quite a lot of wilderness. Most are just 1-2 hours away for weekend breakaways. Even in the main island the south east corner is still quite underpopulated and there are nature trails. In the northeast there is Sai Kung where there are many nice beaches. People just prefer to live close together likely for the better jobs.

A good video to let a hongkonger like me to have a trip on the Hong Kong Island. So many years I didn't have the leisure to take a tram viewing outside. The outlooking of Hong Kong still keeps good and is a safety place for visiting. But the most changes are the minds of our people since the hangover from British to China. The going down of our happiness and also the freedom because of the pressures from the China gov't and some advantage takers of Hong Kong who have their business with China. Also, unblievable rising for the price of properties. Young people are much more difficult to get their flats than even the times before 1997. But on the other hand, looking to many places outside, Hong Kong is still safety and stable for living (at least).
With so few autos on the streets, I assume they are restricted - special permit only. Actually, with the huge number of people that live there, I'm surprised at the modest number of pedestrians. Was this video made early on Sunday morning?
