This summarises the first week and a half we spent in New Zealand, travelling anti-clockwise around the South Island. We started in Christchurch, and travelled through Kaikoura (dolphin swim- best thing either of us have ever done), Abel Tasman (though it was raining so unfortunately we didn't see any of the exotic scenes google will show you), Nelson Lakes, Punakaiki, Hokitika Gorge (beautiful scenery, though again google tells us that it's a lot more impressive when the sun is out!), and the Te Anau/Milford Sound area.
It feels like we spent more time in the car than anything else, though with the scenery of New Zealand it's not even nearly as painful as driving back in the UK. Though it did rain. A lot. Don't let the videos fool you- the 3 minutes in the video were probably the only 3 minutes out of the whole 10 days that it wasn't raining!
Milford sound exceeded expectation and was incredible. We went inside a glow worm cave in Te Anau but weren't allowed to film inside and even if we did, it was really disappointing (and expensive!), but star of the show was undoubtedly swimming with wild dolphins in Kaikoura. The water was freezing, but having dolphins swimming rings around you, while you try (and inevitably fail) to keep turning to face them completely takes your mind off it.
