Nice demo! I have both a YGL-1 and a YGL-2, and they are both awesome amps. I play blues, modern blues, jazz fusion in my blues outfit, and country,country rock, in a few country outfits along with hard rock and a few metal covers for fun. The YGL-2 will do it all and then some!

I have the YGL1 and I was thinking of getting the YGL2 for more volume. Thoughts? I really LOVE the YGL1, but if the YGL2 isn't really that much louder, I might not bother. The YGL1 has got to be one of the greatest amps I have ever owned!!!
@DanDeslauriers

Malcolm Bliss Hey Malcolm, I hear you on the headroom/volume issue with the YGL-1. It is a great amp, but I get killed for volume with very loud drummers. The YGL-2 will most certainly put you back on top with lots of room left on the dial. Clean will break up a little more at high volumes, but if you set the master high and the channel volume low, you should get quite a bit of clean power. Of course it is VERY loud for dirty tones, but what great tones!

Malcolm Bliss Are you using the YGL-1 with a drummer? If so, what style of music are you playing
@malcolmbliss777
9 жыл бұрын
Yes. Everything from Alt CW to HC punk. In fact, I AM the drummer. I dabble on guitar, but I'm a drummer 1st & foremost. I just like always having a backbone here at home. And 20 watts is plenty loud. Though we also use the p.a. with everything. And I don't hit as hard as I used to. You'd need to put it thru the p.a. for a gig, thats for sure.

First the ygl1 which seems very similar to the ycv20, a cathode biased 15 watt el84 amp. Now a 30 watt EL84 cathode biased amp with a voicing switch and a celestion V30. Traynor also have the ycv40 and ycv50 which are similar amps volume wise, but are fixed bias 6l6 platform for a fender sound and a fixed bias EL34 for a more british sound. The darkhorse is cool but people say the YGL1 is louder. Both is greenback loaded. I still think the darkhorse with 370V plate can be made louder than stock

Hi Dom, I've always wanted that "Marshall" sound but I'm not happy with the amps in this price point. What type of crunch/drive sound would you compare the YGL2? Marshall...Vox....?

Sorry my notification weren't set up back then. Had/have the following: YGM-3 '71. Great amp, nice trem on it. YBA-1A modded too much sold YRM-1 Didn't bond with it Dark Horse 15 Traded for a Marshall Class 5. Miss the ext cab more than anything. Quarterhorse. Returned. Not great for a Traynor. YBA-1 '71 Appears to be a good year, great crunch with a weber mass YGL3 Found on ebay as a 'project amp' totally messed up will be rebuilding from scratch. Wish me luck. YCS100 H2 Still have but trying to sell for the YGL rebuild and an ext cabinet I will make. YCV20Wr very versatile amp, great for studio. YCV 50B (in black) great combo for that traynor sound. YCS50H Best Traynor I own. Even though its a modern it has great crunch, great cleans and so much in between. I can not recommend this amp enough to those looking for a great amp. They also run fairly cheap used. YBA-1 comes in second in my amp collection then the YCV50B and YGM-3(mostly for the trem). That YGL2 looks to be another nice modern. How would you rank it against vintage?

Don't know if the Traynor folks actually read these comments (or care), but I gave up. There isn't a Traynor dealer within 500(?) miles of Portland, Oregon and only a single dealer that sells these amps on either eBay or Reverb. The price on eBay/Reverb is $850. So, I bought a Blackstar HT--40 for $600 and spent the $250 I had left over on a couple of pedals. Traynor's web site says there are 2 dealers of their products in my area but in truth neither of them has sold Traynor products in years. I also contacted Traynor multiple times about becoming a dealer, but they couldn't be bothered to respond. Not even to a phone call.

You have to understand that Peter Traynor has past RIP... and the present company using his name is a mere shadow of its former self. I spoke to Peter's son some time ago and he confirmed that the Traynor family are no longer involved with the present company which sells mostly imported solid state equipment. If you won't a real Traynor amp, pick up a sixties or seventies example designed by Peter, have it serviced by a valve amp tech and get some real mojo... :) The new YGL2 sounds OK... but how much of Peter Traynor's ideas are in there... I just don't know.

Jammoko All the vintage Traynor amps I see for sale are too high-wattage and too loud. An Amp has to be played with the volume on at least 5 so that the tubes "open up" and bloom. That's way too loud for any venue I'll ever play. Pedals are no substitute, IMO.
