I've been climbing on a zigzag for roughly 14 months and my only complaint is that it's so smooth the smallest of twigs can accidentally drop you, not far bc it engages immediately but it will break your concentration. When installing my friction saver I always tie a slip not above the chain to prevent watching my rope slip completely out and not fight gravity while I feed it through the rings, same concept as a rigging rope backsliding. It's a fantastic piece of gear. Definitely needs additional brake in SRS although I know some who don't.

I threw a rope wrench on it and it stopped the twig slam. It took a lot of tweaking but I got it nice with some homemade rubber tube grommets and “THE FIX” tether. It’s so smooth and limb walking has never been more professional. I just unlatch the pzz and lay right on the rope wrench and it’s sic.

The second hole on the zigzag is for attaching another climbing device if you are climbing on two ropes. It means you have two systems with only one attachment on your bridge to keep flexibility and prevent twisting.

Silly question about karibeena and the kn rating I have two that don't have any markings on the but they are nice big chunky ones .Can you tell me if you know if I can let's say use them to fix a prusik to a pulley and the rope wrench or zigzag or should I just keep using as I do now to clip things to my belt .love the video very good keep safe
@BinoH
2 жыл бұрын
I would not us them as life support because the are not rated for life support. I'm more familiar with the rope wench and on the rope wrench your prusik cord and a rated carabiner are your life support so what connects the tether to the wrench does not have to be rated. I hope this helps.

The only down side is that it’s not midline attachable. Other than that I really love the tool!! All my ropes have electrical tape on the first 3” so it’s easy to feed the rope.

The top hole is for the chicane and the mid hole is for your second line. Bottom is for attachment to you. The top hole only fits like 3 different types of petzl carabiner. Am'd, triac H beam I believe. I wish it was mid line attachable. It would be so sweet if it was..

When using the Zigzag in DRT you're not suppose to tie a double fisherman's knot to the carabiner. The knot can come in contact with the top of the chain and collapse it dropping you. In DRT your rope should have a tight eye to connect to the carabiner. This is shown in a pic in the manual. Climb safe.
@stephenxburrage
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah in a perfect world a tight eye would be ideal but it’s extremely useful to know how to tie a dead end rope to a carabiner safely.. In fact, I use a ZigZag with a fisherman’s knot tied to the carabiner.. exactly as Bino does.. Never had a single issue.. The zigzag has 2 hole options for your carabiner termination.. use the hole that’s farther away from the zigzag chain. Problem solved
@BinoH

Yes I saw the section in the manual and it shows a figure eight on a bight. It does say caution. It seems like the double fisherman's is narrow enough to not get hung up. Thank you!

In my opinion, the only difference between a double fisherman's and a sewn eye is that the eye is more slick and aesthetic. That's basically it.. both work just fine.

Been climbing for 40 yrs . Never used anything but a climbing knot! He didn't demonstrate the climbing part well. Out of shape and no balance . But I see where it could replace the climbing knot. Little practice and it should save on burning your rope up coming down fast and less friction humping up! I'll get one
