Video interview with UFC newcomer Trey "The Truth" Waters of Jacksonville.
Waters (9-1, 2-0 UFC) defeated Billy Ray Goff (9-3) in a welterweight showdown via ESPN on May 11, 2024 at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Nascimento at Enterprise Center in St. Louis. In a back-n-forth prelim battle, he won by unanimous decision. The bout received Fight of the Night honors, earning each fighter a $50,000 bonus.
Waters, 29, makes the 2-hour drive twice a week, sometimes more, to train at Fusion X-Cel in Ocoee, near Orlando.
In his UFC debut in April 2023 during UFC Fight Night: Song vs. Simon, Waters beat Josh Quinlan (6-2) by unanimous decision. Prior, he was a substitute on one of Dana White's Contender Series shows in sesason 6, losing to Brazil's Gabriel Bonfim (15-1) in Septmeber 2022.
Waters is a former LFA champion, defeating Jalin Fuller (7-4) by KO/TKO in April 2023, two weeks before his UFC debut. In June 2022, he also won by KO/TKO over Ben Bennett.
Waters as a teenager made some wrong decisions and spent time in a juvenile detention center in Jacksonville. He then gave his heart to Jesus and turned his life around, becoming a Christian via Jesus of the Bible Church in Jacksonville. MMA also helped in that transition. Giving back, now he mentors those in that juvenile detention center.
