it just breaks my heart that we can't hear this kind of country music on the radio any more. These were songs you could relate to and they would touch your feelings and your soul.

I jumped in my father in laws truck to some of the worst music I've ever heard on popular a local country radio station here in Ontario, Canada. its gotten so terrible. no one cares about lyrics anymore, all the songs will be forgotten in a month they are so bad.

Paycheck one the under rated giants. Huge hits in the 70s. He walked the walk and lived hard but all the talent in the world.

he is the only outlaw country musician to have shot a man in the head in a bar fight(as far as I know) that's some outlaw stuff there.

I never knew Johnny Paycheck penned " once you've had the best " for George Jones 😮 it's a classic ! By today's standards these artists rule ! Today's artists couldn't hold a candle to them... their music is lackluster and void of feeling...we need a revival .

A wise man once said, "It's best to be quick to anger, but much, much slower to speak." Also, "Birds of a feather flock together."...(So choose your friends ever-so-carefully and always be particular in doing so,.....constantly) ..In addition, " A person can do many, many good things, but it only takes one bad deed to pivotally ruin his future." .......Always beware of the "friends" who are actually backstabbers. Many times it's best to remember, "If you can't say something nice to, or about another person, it's not worth saying anything at all." Sometimes what you say can return to you, much more painfully later, in terms of any increments of time. Words of Wisdom......................................................................

Paycheck is and always will be 1 of my favourites but nobody sang and played a song like the Mighty Merle Haggard he brought you into the song and made you beleive his story he was the best poet musician singer songwriter storyteller and above all he was real just your normal kinda guy from what I can tell it makes me sad to know I will never get to meet my hero or see him play live thank god for youtube and people posting these great videos I did meet Willie Nelson and seen him play live and Kellie picker kissed me on the mouth (just a peck ) in tootsies in nashville and told me my irish accent was quiet i thought her southern drawl was too so its not all bad lol 1 of the best days of my life

Real Country music survived in spite of Nashville’s strangle hold on the artists. Making them jump through hoops for peanuts. Thank goodness for the Outlaw movement that included Paycheck, Waylon, Cash, Haggard, Coe, Carter, Coulter, Kristofferson, Shaver, Newbury, Van Zandt, Nelson and a few others. To quote Waylon “We weren't just playing bad guys; we took our stand outside the country music rules, its set ways, locking the door on its own jail cell. We looked like tramps..."Don't fu*k with me," was what we were tryin' to say...We loved the energy of rock and roll, but rock had self destructed. Country had gone syrupy. For us, "outlaw" meant standing up for your rights, your own way of doing things. It felt like a different music, and outlaw was as good a description as any. We mostly thought it was funny; Tompall immediately made up outlaw membership certificates...At last, an image!” Nashville was humbled into accepting them as the real country style. Back to the roots of backroom bars and sawdust floors kinda music that you could get up and dance to or sing along with. Imo not at all like in the “Grand ol opera” style of stuffed shirts and tuxedos and them keeping most of the money made from recordings held back in BS investments. Imo “The Outlaws” could now be in control of their own style of music with their own back-up band members and their own venues and If RCA wanted to record their music they we’re going to have to pay more now. A lot more.

Nashville is still continuing to kill country music. Social media has taken away a lot of their power and gatekeeping but there’s good music out there if you look for it.
