This is an incredibly well researched video. I adore your attention to detail and fact gathering. Thanks for creating such a wonderful tribute to the former Trike Encounter!!

I remember walking through the Triceratops Encounter sometime in 2001 before it closed in the fall, and again in 2003 as Discovery Trail. Neither version did much for me as a coaster enthusiast who loved Hulk and Dueling Dragons, especially with River Adventure usually having a short wait. I'm glad to see VelociCoaster take its place! Great video!

That's great you got to do it though! It definitely didn't hold up to IOA's bigger rides. Considering that the newer attractions have animatronics in the queues now (Kong, VelociCoaster), Triceratops Encounter almost feels like something they would put in a queue nowadays. The resort has come so far in 20 years!

That was an odd one! There was a pan under the trike for the vet to collect a “sample.” Wasn’t able to find it on video, but it was a part of it!

Wait, I dont remember this attraction! Holy Moly, that would have been fun. I guess they replaced it with the Raptor Encounter. Thanks for sharing this. I have never seen it. LIKE 33. 👍👍👍

That’s exactly it! I go into that a little later in the video. VelociCoaster is there now.

It's sort of reinvented at USH with the two person Triceratops puppet "breathing" and walking around.

i’ve always enjoyed the idea of triceratops encounter but it would be pretty awesome if they did so with other dinosaurs aswell

It would’ve been neat if they had other dinos. I understand that means engineering and designing them, so it’s not entirely practical from a budget standpoint, but still would’ve been neat.

When I was a kid I went to IOA on a family vacation. I was and still am a dinosaur fanatic so of course I was stoked for the Jurassic section. I remember Triceratops Encounter (this would have been ~1999) and wasn't overly impressed with the animatronic experience. Being an animal and dinosaur lover, the animatronic just looked and felt fake. Also, I remember the performer really obnoxiously overacting the part. I did however very much enjoy the extended queue with the ranger station, feed area and research outpost. Looking back the heavily themed queue was almost a walkthrough attraction by itself. I loved it so much because it felt like I was walking through authorized personnel only areas of an actually functioning Jurassic Park.

These are all great points! Yeah, I do remember as a kid being aware it was a fake dino. It's hard to pull off at that scale. The current Raptor Encounter feels a lot more alive. But that queue and area really did feel real with the queue! You make a great point about that.

I would love to see a brand new version of this attraction to exist one day. Imagine how impressive the animatronics would be today especially after the amazing ones on Jurassic World Adventure in Beijing.

That would be great! I think part of the problem with that type of attraction is the low thrill level. Crowds may not be too interested in watching one animatronic for several minutes. It would have to be a really great story and situation for it to do well, but I'd love it! Thanks for watching.

For sure! Seems like something that would do really well in another park, but not the thrill-centric IOA. Weird that nothing went wrong in a Jurassic Park attraction. 😅
