Those switch bombs down the set by P-Rod used to score around 9.0. And he's still the only one making switch look regular, which should count a little more. Jagger & Mickey got screwed as well. SLS is a shadow of what it used to be. It wasn't perfect before, but it was diverse and exciting. The current format sucks, and is a real step back from previous formats. I've found the finals at the these last two stops to be much less interesting than finals in the past. At this rate, it won't be long before they eliminate the run section entirely, and even using an entire skatepark for the competition, in favor of just having a best trick contest down a set of stairs with one hubba and one rail.
@hateatchee7508
2 жыл бұрын
For real, I miss when they would have different sections. It was so much more interesting when they had a tech section, a line section, and a big section all as separate parts of the park. Gave chances for all types of skaters to shine, you got to see more than just the same 15 tricks, and forced the skaters to be more well rounded rather than relying on handrails alone.

Really enjoyed the video but I feel like you maybe missed a couple of things. 1) trick selection: I feel a skater who is known for certain tricks score less on them e.g ribiero does a lot of crook nollie flip out. Joslin big sends. Judges don’t favour this safety approach as much 2) crowd noise and reaction: I always feel some skaters get mugged with the score sometimes and more time or not I believe how the crowd react is a good indicator so even if something doesn’t look so good a more known skater such as nyjah benefits Remember sls is a business and these guys are the face off it. Makes me sad that you said Dilo doesn’t know how to contest when he’s actually trying to win his way but it’s so clear to see his version of fun and gnarly is not sls vision

Loved your analysis! Nyjah deserves the good scores...but the other skaters deserve fair scoring too. Hopefully, they will bring back 2 runs and fair scoring. I think the judges should be able to pull that off (Marks, Capaldi etc... come on you can do better)

Damn can you do this for all upcoming SLS events and previous ones too??? Thx

This is a good example of why I quot watching skateboarding isn't the same anymore its just like anything else now. Shane basically did a damn near full nollie and switch run textbook and they give jagger or however you spell it second in the standings it's obvious there is a agenda and it's demolishing competition skating

Great breakdown! The judges should all have to watch this after each comp

that switch heel front 5-0 at the end doesn't look like it locked in, which is why it got scored so low I think

I subscribed, this is exactly the kind of nerd data about skateboarding i needed. I'm always thinking this to myself and trying to predict scores and such, and this is just huge fun to watch.

I understand that it's hard to swallow tough judging but I see little to nothing wrong with a +/- .5 swing and judges wanting variety. Another part that you're failing to account for is how hard it has become to get a 9.0. BS360 nose blunt almost got a perfect score year one of SL. Now, BS360 nose blunt barely gets a 9 because of progression.

WTF JUDGES need to change out, they are paid off or something, GET OFF JAGGERS NUTS JUST TO SCORE HIGHER, HUSTON. how are Micky and Jagger and DeShawn so calm when wronged like that, its amazing. I appreciate this content, @ Dumb Data

I was assuming until these two competitions, that they had a fine tuned computer assisted scoring system, but it seems they don't.

Thank your for this. The SLS judging has always been flawed, but this contest made me ready to get my tinfoil hat on. These judges need to be switched out...

22:23 his switch heel 5-0 only got 6.7 because he didn't really lock in properly

Agreed except for a single point: there is a pretty big difference in difficulty between Nyjah's half cab bs smith 180 and Foy's half cab bs 5-0.

SLS judging I'd biased like every other sport. The refs call what they want when they inconsistently. It seems like if your more popular or likeable guy the better the score. Shane n P-Rod killed it just to get dogged. DeShawn, Filepe n Foy were more impressive than 9jah imo. Papa killed it to.. idk it all seemed wrong to me personally

It's just entertainment

@@Lolp821 yeah tell that to the athletes and I understand it's entertainment like football or mma yet nobody enjoys a game w bad calls from the refs or judges. Its all entertainment, with a touch of biased and playing favorites no doubt. Idc what sport it is, or what activity there's always going to be some level of bias. It's human nature to like someone or something more than others, ni matter what it is nobodies morals and likes & dislikes will be the same. But when there's a wrong call or foul or bad judging in a fight or event, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. If someone's doing clearly harder tricks the nobody else can or is doing the score should reflect it period. I don't watch SLS & other events because I find it boring or dumb, it's obviously only entertainment. So does the Superbowl or Stanley Cup or Super Crown not matter if it's judged properly because in the end it's only entertainment? Like idk wtf ur even talking about right now. If it's only just for entertainment why even score it then? When ur hear Geoff Rowley saying what's up judges, u gonna go tell him & the people competing that it's only entertainment who cares? All the money sls & other sports rake in I don't think it's to much to ask for some consistent & fair judging honestly

I've been watching SLS since day one, and I saw this shi t from the beginning. I called it then, and I appreciate your work now. It would be a tone of work, but imagine the dumb data from every season [collectively] ... things would get really ugly.

The reason for nyjah’s 6.7 on the switch flip 5-0 was just because he didn’t lock in to it, he basically just manualled it
