Without a doubt TRIUMPH was the best live performers of the day at the US 1983! I was there and they sounded AMAZING AF.

Why doesn't anyone talk about Triumph more? They were F'ing fantastic. In his prime there are very few rock stars who could match his voice live. Amazing! How do Canadian bands get so much sound with a trio?

+Chris J These guys, Rush, Max Webster, and so many other great Canadian bands are from my town. I only recently found out how close my house is to where Geddy Lee of Rush lived, and where Alex Lifeson's old high school is. My kids may go to that same high school since it's the closest one to our house. I digress. So much talent! Must be something in the drinking water?

Awesome song -- the song you sing out loud in your car! And play the drums with your hands..... Those 3-man bands from Canada are pretty impressive. Count it - Triumph had 18 gold and 9 platinum albums during the 70s and 80s. Rush has 24 gold, 14 platinum, and 3 multi platinum albums. Canada - not just for hockey players anymore.

Had to look at this clip again today as my 17 year old came in and said he heard this great song on the radio, something about "lay it on the line" and he screeched it out and it took me back to 83 and the heat and madness of the US festival. I was in the navy in Long Beach and went to all three days and I have to say Triumph were one of the best of the entire session, including the 82 shows. What a great band, 3 rockin Canucks!!!! Rik Emmett left Triumph in 1988 to pursue a solo career. His first solo album, Absolutely, was released in 1990 and became a moderate hit across the United States and Canada thanks to the hits "When a Heart Breaks," "Big Lie" and "Saved by Love". He is also a writer for Guitar Player magazine and teaches song-writing and music business at Humber College in Toronto.

James Morrison Not using Wiki. I am using my own brain, and memory. I was a junior in HS, in '83, and designed a really cool computer program, when then concert was first announced. And, Triumph was always scheduled to play Heavy Metal Sunday. Motley was supposed to open the day, but when Joe Walsh got moved to Monday, they moved Motley to 2nd, and had QR open the show. For the 3rd time, you are wrong.

Triumph was nothing short of magnificent at the US Festival and Rik Emmett was out of his mind great. Listen to that voice! For those who saw or was at this show, many of the "metal" bands were not on their game. Either drunk and annoying (Van Halen) or just out of their league (Crue). Triumph showed what a great tight live set should sound like. Great!

wish people would stop comparing Triumph to Rush. Only things they have in common are Canada & 3, that's all. Triumph to me is so inspiring and upbeat with their lyrics. Rick just sings his ass off & makes it look easy at that. I discovered this band back in 1981 after Allied Forces was released and have loved them ever since.
