Program Notes:
The troposphere is the layer of the Earth’s atmosphere where weather occurs. This piece began as an homage to three climates I love: the rainy Pacific Northwest, the quiet snows of the Black Forest, and the blistering sunny summers of Sacramento. This is only a performance of the second movement, which contains images of footsteps in snow, dripping faucets, and the grandeur of a snowstorm made of many tiny flurries.
