When our old chestnut tree fell during Tropical Storm Fred, it took out power for the entire neighborhood. Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative sent trucks that night to restore power, sparing us a night of misery in the heat. The crew didn't waste time getting their chainsaws out to cut up that old tree and free their lines. Despite low light conditions, they conducted their work flawlessly and were back on the road fast to work on the next outage. Before leaving, one of the crew offered up an appreciated moment of consolation given the fact that our fallen tree put the neighborhood in the dark. "Don't feel so bad. When a branch fell from my tree, it took out power for 120 houses." A lineman nearby nodded his head. "I know because was one of those houses was mine."
