For me, me the most powerful line is after Lionel tells his truth, he tells Chloe she should not have asked him that. John Glover's tone and delivery came across as very dangerous, peaking curiosity of what the consequences of her knowing that information could be. It seemed each secret she unfolded became more important building up to that unsettling moment.

Yes! It was a great buildup of how much trouble she'd both reveal and get into with her newfound power. The scene with Lionel was really the climax of the episode even more than the bridge. Also love your use of "peaking" after Lionel calls Chloe "a bit peaked" in that scene haha.

yeah for me, the actress is fine. she's never bad, but I do think someone else could have easily played Chloe w more nuance and less desperation (and would have totally changed her character, maybe even for the better). was able to appreciate her acting performance more in the eps when Chloe was possessed or she was playing a different character and wasn't bogged down by that clunky Buffy/Willow wannabe dialogue. She would usually do a good job for those and you could see she had a bit of a range. def like how over the next few seasons you see a less intense version of Chloe, and while it doesn't always hit the mark there is a strong effort to have Chloe grow and be a true side character and not just a plot point

@jerodast true... but also, kinda sucks that if his friends really believe that [he has something special about him and he's just not sharing w them] why can't they just be supportive and not make it about them. it takes Chloe to actually learn his secret to back off about it. Lana, to some extent, tries to but even she doesn't ultimately let it go til she has her own proof. Lex just uses it as an excuse to justify his behavior. his true friendship (in early seasons) was suppressing his dark side, which was probably exhausting for him. so he takes the 1st off ramp he can "Clark isn't honest w me so i may as well destroy the friendship so i can be my evil-self"

This is a fun episode of smallville, showing the real feelings of many characters. Allison’s performance in this is excellent and entertaining. We definitely have Chloe getting a little antagonistic during her power trip. She’s not really showing any regard for anyone, wearing her reporter hat a little to tight. When Clark says she would betray a friend for a story, I think he is right. And she gets upset when Lana says she couldn’t trust her? But luckily Chloe gets development and will soon become Clark’s most trusted ally. Need to edit this in: Rosenbaum no need to downplay the conversation between the girls! I think it’s an important one because it’s honestly one of the few conversations that Lana and Chloe gets in the show that only focused on their friendship and development, and not a guy.

@MomoSimone22 she’s my favorite character on the show. Yes she made mistakes in earlier seasons but as seasons progress she becomes a close confidant to Clark and he later on always went to her for advice. I like Lana in some ways but she’s certainly no saint. Chloe is one of the people who is “all in.” She poured her feelings out to Clark knowing she would get hurt. That took guts IMO. Lana never did that. Not really. Lana takes off to Paris (because of Clark) then comes back. Lana doesn’t know what the hell she wants. She’s up, down, sideways, etc. Chloe and Lex are driven people who know what they want and go for it. That’s just how I’ve always seen them. The “Clana,” fan base was so strong that people would have been upset if Clark did start dating Chloe. Chloe loved him the most and went thru hell with him in later seasons. Chloe was willing to go the distance with Clark that Lana and even Lois wouldn’t do. That’s just my opinion. Again I don’t dislike Lois or Lana because they have many endearing moments but Chloe sticks out for me. I don’t always condone her actions but she will admit to them. Lana has made her fair share of mistakes but she at times acts like she’s little Miss Angel 😇 which she is not. And let’s not forget who was snooping on Chloe’s computer looking at photos of her and Clark at the Spring formal. Lana did that and yet no one seems to address that? I love the show and I love love Tom’s portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman but when it comes to Chloe I’m very defensive of her character because I really relate to her. I can have a big mouth sometimes and wish I hadn’t opened it like Chloe but like her I will admit to screwing up.

This episode was something that gets better as it goes on... It's definitely a solid episode... This episode also shows Chloe's character development as she realizes that her curiosity can get so intense that it causes people (even her friends) to distance themselves from her, while ruining some people's lives (a la, the teacher and her son)... Despite all the chaos that Chloe has caused, Clark still has her back even when she's throwing shots at him... That hug 🫂 between Clark and Chloe at the end cements that their friendship is ironclad and that nothing will be able to come between them ever again (for now, at least)... We talk about Tom's chemistry with Kristin, however, Tom also had chemistry with Allison (and not even gonna perp, I wish that Clark and Chloe could've had a romantic relationship maybe for half of a season at least because there was always something there... Clark was in love with Lana, however, he had feelings for Chloe even tho he may have denied it lol)... Pete was great in this episode as I could definitely relate to him when it came to the girl he had feelings for was into his best friend so when Pete tells Clark "even before I knew you had powers, you cast a big shadow" as I could relate to that also... The scene when Chloe gets Lionel Luthor to confess to killing his parents was 😳🤯... Lex continuing to be that big brother to Clark will never get old 😎... Chloe was really on the hunt this episode. She got into things and places she shouldn’t have been able and gets away. She pops up right where and when they fear her most. Really interesting how her interactions with the Luthors went down. Then seeing how Lionel did a complete 180 and turned her power to his favor... That’s some Big bossin’.

The truth finally comes out when Pete Ross says he has real feelings for Chloe Sullivan. I remember the scene especially when Clark enters a lab the door opens automatically in that scene but behind the scenes commentary Tom says it had to be opened manually by two people.

Not to mention a deleted scene from the pilot where, as they’re going into the gymnasium, Pete’s hand slides down to Chloe’s butt. Chloe: “Pete!” Pete: “It’s a friend-friend thing!” Poor Pete can’t catch a break!

🌹Michael perfectly balanced criticism and appreciation, he really wasn't negative at all today 👏 really enhances the podcast, more insightful ❤️ also he was adorable trying to win the "Ryan's favorite scene" game 😂😂😂 Heartbreaking when Tom doesn't get it 💔😂 Is it just me, or is the whole opening sequence so awkward?! like, even for Chloe (and why was she in her dad's car - was that to trick the guy?) it's WEIRD she confronts a middle aged man in his driveway in the middle of the night, with that clunky dialogue even more inappropriate for her age than normal, and then she's able to break into a huge multi-million dollar facility, um ok, and then gets infected! so the entire opening was cuz um they literally couldn't come up w a smarter inciting incident to get the plot moving? it's just weird. 🤦♀️Chloe finds out Clark "met" his bio-dad and her immediate reaction was "why didn't you tell me" not "how are you feeling about that" like just stop. her sense of entitlement over Clark's privacy is just TOO MUCH. 🤬Just when we thought we could open the door this season to trusting Chloe 🤦♀️ honestly, they should have just had her become the villain we thought she was turning into at end of Exodus. I get that she's leaning into it hard here, but what a great arc that would have made! so much more impactful than "sorry i threw a hissy fit and then sorta betrayed you over the summer, but I know you'll get over it so I'll not bother to change or earn your trust"...100% of her redemption is Clark just forgiving her, which is a reflection of his character not hers. She never puts the work in to earn it. 🤔does the show ever address how smug and pleased w herself about all the truths coming out and she's smiling like a sociopath learning that lives are being destroyed so that she can write in her HS newsletter. she doesn't give a shit that she outs that kid in front of his macho team. so did the drug also remove her compassion or does she really not give AF who she hurts as long as she gets to write a story? Omg PETE! he's so freaking cute! admitting his feelings for Chloe and why he never shared b4 just killed me 💔💔💔 and then it's NEVER discussed again! ever! that would have been a cute paring! it would have given Pete more to do, and finally Chloe could move on from her infatuation..sigh...maybe in another universe. also, wow Lex has a breakthrough and realizes how much he wants his father's love. and has another one realizing he'll never get it 💔 I give this one a half 🌹 surprised Tom went low and Michael went higher than him! so cool when he gets into the eps 🤗

I thought the plot of this episode was pretty cool, but we also saw how curious Chloe is. Especially when she asks Clark to tell her his secret. I also found it pretty funny when Pete kissed Chloe and interesting how the truth thing didn't affect Clark.

Hate to say it, and I don't want to be "that guy", but all your guys attitudes towards Chloe at the end is pretty sexist. That caller is out of his mind saying Chloe is irredeemable because she went a bit crazy with her powers - pretty much *every* character in this show goes through that at some point (skipping a bit ahead here, but Lana becomes a complete psychopath when she gets powers in season 7, Pete becomes a lunatic just from winning a few car races). I don't recall people saying Clark was irredeemable when we saw his hidden desires in Red (yes I know it was Kryptonite. That's the point: we all have selfishness inside of us that needs to be controlled. Chloe is a goddamn teenager that got a superpower and people are shocked she went too far?) And the attitude all you guys have at the end that Chloe is driven and career focused - like it's a character flaw and makes her "undatable"... Love this show and love you guys, but that was really poor form....

@asyouwish3636
10 ай бұрын
@PiliHalliwell YES, the more i think about it, this wasn't a case of her "not being herself" cuz usually people don't remember when it happens. but also she WAS being herself! I could be wrong but I don't think the drug altered her personality, she def got drunk w publicity and even her lack of compassion i dont think was the drug i think it was cuz she believed writing the story was more important than people's feelings. even at the end driving to interrogate the Kents. i mean how many times already has Clark basically scolded her for pushing too much into his privacy? she just keeps trying diff ways. this was just her hitting the jackpot in her mind, which also explains her not wanting to get treated. so yeah the drug was the catalyst and it was all her really

I’m a Chloe hater until I die and that has never changed 😆 this is one of those eps that skyrocketed my hate and solidified my desire for her to just not be on the show anymore. Her smirk of getting away with things is infuriating and this was a huge betrayal to clark that showed her desire for her selfish aspirations was bigger than her desire to be a good friend and respect clarks privacy. I would not have forgiven her and Clark deserved better. Even throughout the show she only helped him because she was always in love with him not because she was a good person.

she has alot going against her: (1)the original pining away for Clark started HS-normal but then she ended it b4 it could really go anywhere only to immediately resent Clark for her own choice, and then her infatuation turned to obsession (2) constantly betraying Clark as a manifestation of her unrequited crush to either get attention and feel important to him, or for retribution. she even tried undermining him and Lana a few times (and kinda also w Lois later on) (3) her transgressions are always about her and her needs, while when Clark for example "isn't himself" that's more about the bigger picture. we (the audience) would respond the same about a character who is a pathological liar. cuz she's not really being honest w herself constantly trying to suppress or transform her love for Clark into something else. initially I didn't like her (mostly her dialogue lol) cuz of self centered behavior. but on re-watch, I was able to understand her motivations and make more sense of her choices. tbh the writers really didn't set her up for success, then didn't know what to do w her. she really should have finished up S3, either written/killed off (which would have opened up major arcs for Clark, and Lois). in the whole series, all of her growth is related to Clark-driven plots and always feels forced cuz it's used as a way to keep her in Clark's life, not for her own character development. from a writing perspective, it reduces her to a plot device. ie: when she finally learns his secret it's completely unearned cuz it was about Alicia's character-motivations for herself and for Clark. ultimately Chloe doesn't truly grow as much as she mostly just adjusts to be less intense version of herself. there's a few exceptions here and there (her fighting off Darkseid's minions) but hard to celebrate cuz 10 seasons there's just too much accumulation of all of her actions being either plot driven or a reflection of another character.

12:30 that is why your level of directing never evolved, you think too one dimensional and is why all movies suck now, look at the modern super hero tv shows (i don't even watch them they look bad) even terri hatcher and dean cain i saw on youtube saying the new "lois and clark" looks bad. Just because YOU think its boring doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the show, remember they are creating realism so doing simple things by these regular human beings is important for the environment they can't just do amazing stuff 100% of the time, this is funny when you guys complain about realism all the time

A fun episode that I think was trying to experiment early on with Chloe gaining kryptonite abilities. A neat concept, that resulted in some humorous reveals: such as Pete telling Chloe about Clark's powers, as he put it: Clark going "Super Sonic" to get hotdogs fron Metropolis stadium. Or another is Martha letting slip about Jor-El to Chloe. Sighting him as the reason Clark ran off to Metropolis that past summer. Just little moments that make this one a treat. TGIW!😀❤❤
