Thank you. After I had gotten to use Sherline I learned to be machinist I fell in love to the plastic metal work, so I recommend Sherline to all who want to start by doing everything themselves as well. I just can say that Sherline really a excellent machine to me. I made many modifications as you can see in my videos and i have a pleasure in for sharing and exchanging experiences here. So I recommend the 4400 lathe line and 2010 mills, metric or inch, Thanks again Luiz

The way you have the single shaft servo mounted to the bed with the hand wheel also.. I assume you built that custom, or is there something available to buy?
@tryally

Yes, everything was done by me, the idea was very simple, it was a way I found to avoid using my hands to move the x and z axes. The stepper motor I used for the Z axis is powerful, I recommend that it has at least 7 amps, the motor for the X axis can be any stepper motor from 2 amps upwards.
@stancooper5436

Great work! Do you use that servo for general turning work or is it too slow to replace the stock motor for that?
@tryally
15 күн бұрын
For turning, this motor is slow, so I only use it to make threads because it's easier to synchronize. It would even be possible to turn some types of workpieces with larger diameters, but the ideal is still a higher rotation. In this video, I'm showing details on how I made this system: kzitem.info/news/bejne/sISYmpOGnWl0qno I hope you get some benefit from this video. Thank you for watching.

Probably the hand method until I can get all the information and parts needed to set it up for CNC threading operations. I have looked at the Flashcut CNC gear in the past but as I already have the Sherline CNC gear, I would just like to find something that would control the threading operation. That is without having to replace what I have but work with what I have. Flashcut looks like a complete replacement. In my case I use the old stepper moto because I had this motor but you can use other stepper motor with sucess but just with a potent power drive as I said. Hi Omar. So this system was developed by my self, I've created a contraption that works well using the Mach3. The G codes CNC programming is made by hand. Many friends are using encoder in the headstock spindle in order to make threads, seems works well too. Take a look at Sherline lathe & mill Group on Facebook, there have good ideas and good friends

Hello Luiz, I was reading comments between Englishman French and yourself on screwcutting in this video, seeing as you are using cnc for threading and plunging in on each pass, is it possible through your cnc program to alternate metal removal off of one side only (or both sides) to replicate a top slide set at 30 deg thus it would follow Englishman French suggestion, or should I say the old fashioned way, Many years back on a manual production run threading parts, we had the top slide set at zero and parallel to the lathe bed and just moved the top slide back and forward over the zero datum to remove metal each side of the thread very quickly and then took a final cleanup pass on zero, you could achieve the same thing using cad, I think???, Hope I have written clearly, Edmund...........Alberta

Hi Edmund, So in general, threads by little lathe machine just work to cut the both sides. By my system where I've using a strong stepper motor to move the set is only for not use the Sherline hand wheels, and with the X stepper motor together, all work is very more quick and precise. Since I use the system with two stepper motors I never had no problems to cut threads on my workshop, remembering that the bigger motor is only to run all set and the X motor ( small normal ) is just to make the corret tool positioning. Hope I have written clearly for you too. (sorry my poor english) Look at this too, more about my work, photos, ideas, accessories, micro-tools etc.. facebook.com/tryallytech?fref=ts You are welcome! Hello Luis, I wish I were able to speak two languishes, so you are doing fine, I'm sorry but I think you have misunderstood my comment, there really is nothing wrong with the way you made your thread, these days it is or seems to be normal, Englishman French made the comment about cutting the thread at 30 degrees on the forward face of the tool instead of at 90 degrees as you did by removing material on both sides of your toolbit, his suggestion would give a nice finish with less stress on machine and toolbit, I was only asking you if a cnc program could be coded to achieve Englishman's suggestion, if so perhaps you could video a comparison between the two operations, Edmund...........Alberta

Hello Edmund, understood now, aboout this video I made the threads just fo demonstration, and in this time i had only this tool and I was excited to show the my system to cutting. About the guy Englishman French, and tthe commentary, in general order him is correct, but he does not understood the purpose of job. Now to answer your question, if a cnc program could be coded to achieve Englishman's suggestion, I think yes but with professional machine because this machines have various sofisticate parameters of programming, but the end result is, in my view is the same thing, but is important know that advancing or moving back the tool to cut the threads brings an increasing the lifespan of tool and this the CNC programing makes easily. Hi Ayan, I put a powerful step motor with a good driver box in the place of the spindle motor in order do not use the hands for to make threads, by this way I get near 300 to 500 rpm with feed rate between 150 ~ 400 mm per minute. Therefore, the rpm and feed rate is combined by the Sherline thread cutting attachment. Just to summarize the step motor is just to run the movement in the place the hands facilitating the work. Thanks for the kind reply Luiz. What I would like to do, would be to use a 3A stepper motor with a torque of 382 oz inch, so that it would be possible to use the sherline box, and the stepper motor would be driven by the z dro in mach3. I think it is possible, I just need to find out what 382 oz in translate into metric. Is your motor 32 kg per cm?

@wiatroda With the ArtCAN is a little more complicated but have a pluin for it, work well. Once you get used it's easy to do anything in 2 and 3D. Luiz

@wiatroda Hi Mariusz, Thanks for you comment. I think in new videos recorded as soon as possible. Recently I bought a new camera for that. I remember you that in this video (thread) I dont use CAD to make it. The program was made with hands (in nail) I'll go considering your idea of step by step for my new videos too. Well, my thread system is very simple, the stepper motor is only for move the handwheel. (7Ap stepper motor) I dont use the software synchronize the X-axis with the spindle, I use only the EMC 2 for all moviments of handwheel.

Hi. The my old stepper motor is for 32 klg. Remember that this steepper motor is only to avoid the use of the hands and the results is very well. Before to make the threads I look the distance for revolutions and I edict the G code. Soon I'll communicate you about my acessories and tools. Sincerely Luiz

Hi, In this video I'm using EMC but today I use Mach3 software, is very good and easy. The software is just to move the X axis and Z bigger stepper like a spindle motor to make the threads. For the steps of threads I'm using the original Thread-cutting Attachment, P/N 3100. I hope this can help you. Luiz

hi again I guess for the thread you use the( f )for feed example g0 x20 g01 z-30f1(metric ) g0x19 g01z-30f1 Regards Dennis
@justifiedrampage

It's more complicated than that. F is for the feed rate 1 inch ÷ tpi. Not sure what it is for metric. But it needs a canned cycle as far as I know. You have a g76 and a g92. G92 is easier to program but requires more typing of code. G76 is more stuff to remember and less typing of code. I like g76 but a g92 works well if your threads are giving you problems and you want to completely control the depth of cut on each pass.
