Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 6:50 am forecast. Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday. We had spectacular weather on Monday and we'll have that again today and for the rest of this week. Baton Rouge reached a high temp of 94 degrees on Monday. Drier air filtering in helped to lower the humidity. Although it was still hot, it wasn’t that humid. High temperatures will be a little lower today and for the next few days. Temperatures were near 60 this morning and skies were clear. We'll have clear skies and sunshine for the rest of today. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s. Northerly winds will be around 10 mph. Similar weather will continue all week. Wednesday morning will start off cool with morning lows in the upper 50s. Highs will be in the mid 80s. Tomorrow will be another great day to get outside and enjoy the pretty weather. Thursday morning and Friday morning will be just as cool with morning lows in the upper 50s to 60 degrees. Even if some towns don’t have lows below 60, we’ll have cool mornings for the rest of the week. Plan accordingly for you and your kids. Highs will still be in the mid to upper 80s on Thursday through the beginning of next week. Enjoy a week of beautiful weather as we’re expecting plenty of sunshine and dry conditions. Tracking the tropics: Milton rapidly intensified within the span of one day. It was still a tropical storm on Sunday and then it became a Category 1 hurricane. Milton was a Category 2 hurricane yesterday morning. During the 6 am CDT hour, the National Hurricane Center issued a statement saying Milton became a Category 3. Then it became a Category 4 during the 8 am CDT hour. Milton then strengthened some more and became a Category 5 around the late morning/noon time hours. At that time, Milton had maximum sustained wind speeds of 160 mph. Wind speeds increased to 180 mph yesterday afternoon. Milton has downgraded to a Category 4. As of 4 AM CDT, it has maximum sustained wind speeds of 155 mph. The 7 AM update from the NHC states that wind speeds are now at 145 mph. Milton is still expected to be a powerful hurricane when it makes landfall Wednesday evening near Tampa Bay. Let’s keep our Florida neighbors in our prayers. Have a terrific Tuesday!
