I'm just getting into turkey hunting and have been getting after the spring turkey here in FL. All of the tips you give about understanding and using their biology to hunt them is super helpful. Thanks again, and happy hunting!

I have taken a couple of Osceolas. Got them at Green Swamp West. This link has an article that references that hunt. It is a three part article and all three parts are on my blog. I know it will help you. This is part 1- how2hunt.com/turkey-hunting-secret/

Hey there Monte, Just needed to say thank you for taking out the time to put together these videos. Great stuff! I know you have worked hard over the years to obtain your knowledge, thank you for sharing. Also, what helpful tips might you have for hunting public land and dealing with hunting pressure? I know its a rather touchy subject, but i have questions for days. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you,Don

+don moore Don that is a great question but one I feel qualified to answer because I have predominately hunted public land for several years now. The fact is I prefer it to any hunt club or private land I have ever had access to for several reasons. First of all, I have less competition than any of the private land I have ever hunted because I have gotten proficient at leaving the crowd behind. I do that by walking farther, staying longer, and keeping a good attitude. On a couple of the places I hunt I use a canoe to get away from the crowd. Sometimes I go to a public place at 10 am when most others are leaving ( we can hunt all day in my home state). I also use a small boat with a 15 hp engine to get to the birds. That method is as simple as cruising into a cove, stopping the boat, waiting for the wake to slap out, and calling to locate a bird. Birds are used to boats on the lake because they have seen them their entire life. When I get an answer I hop out and work the bird. I also look for overlooked places. Most people look for easy access and I use that fact to filter out the crowd. It is normal to see people parked at a path because it is easy to get in to. I, on the other hand, look for the more difficult access and I am usually all by myself. I love places where there is a closed gate that prevents people from driving in. In those situations I let my legs put enough distance between me and the crowd. I have hunted public land for most of the last decade and love it. I cannot remember the last time another hunter was a problem. That is as much a result of my attitude as it is my tactics, and I have 100% control over that! I'm walking while others are complaining! I hope this helps. Stay after em! Monte

Nice n simple monte. You seem to have a gift for these videos... no fumbling around for words.. or gear... always packed full of useful info and right to the point. Thanks so much. I guess my only question is what kind of a crow call do you recommend or are they all basically the same. I ask because you recommended that woodhaven call to me in a previous video and it was perfect for what I needed. So, are crow calls all the same or what?

Hey Sam, good to hear from you again. In fact, I recently found a comment of yours that KZitem put in spam. I do not have any idea why that happened, but it caused me to miss your comment and not respond. I really appreciate your comments so please know that I did not ignore you on purpose. The only crow call I have ever used was made by Primos. I have owned two different types of their calls that I bought over 20 years ago. The one I like the best has rubber around the mouthpiece that channels all the air for more intense volume. IMO, that is important because you are trying to "shock" a gobble out of a bird. The other one ended up in the kids toys. Also, thanks for the encouragement about the videos, I love doing them. Get after em! Monte

+Brian Killgore Honestly, I wish I knew. There is no brand or any thing that would indicate its manufacturer. If I find out I will let you know.Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and doing these videos. I was wondering what the crow call helps you accomplish while hunting turkey?

Crow calls can make a turkey gobble. You can use it to "shock" a gobble out of a bird so you can get a fix ob his location. Personally, I primarily use it when I want to reposition to set up on a bird I have been working that will answer me but is not coming in. I repositioned on a bird last year that would answer me every time but would not budge. As soon as I moved to a place that he wanted to move to it only took a couple of yelps to bring him in. While I was repositioning I crow called to stay aware of his location. Once I was set up i switched to hen calls because I was ready for him. Hope this helps.
