DeWalt Table Saw: amzn.to/3wvQMEH
Do you ever feel like you're drowning in boxes? We are Amazon Prime members and we usually have to dispose of several boxes per week. I am always looking for new sources of mulch or compost. So what about cutting up boxes? Here I've attached the ripping fence to my De Walt table saw. I've attached a shop vac to catch the outflow. It's kind of laborious, but oddly satisfying. I folded the box a few times so I can cut multiple layers at once. Now let's see what is in the shop vac. It's got the consistency of soft sawdust.
This material kind of feels like blown insulation, without the fiberglass splinters. It's got the perfect consistency for composting.
I think it might be a little fine for using as mulch. Presumably I could increase the width between the blade and the ripping fence to give the cardboard a more coarse consistency.
I've moved the fence away from the blade, giving a width of about one eighth of an inch, or a few millimeters.
Now let's do some more cutting. The process is much faster with the wider cut.
So how did we do? I can see some obvious strips, as well as the finer bits. This honestly looks almost exactly like the mulch that I buy a Home Depot!
Anyway, here is one way to get rid of all those boxes without trashing them. Just cut them with a table saw and put them in your garden
