I had a 64 or maybe it was a 62. I can't remember now. 3hp and it ran like a charm....first pull, start right up! Perfect motor for my small 12' lake boat. I bought it from a guy that was selling some of his dad's old stuff, he said his dad was the original owner. Those motors were and are the best, after 65 years and still running!

Ahhh, twins! I had 1950's 35 HP Evinrudes, traded up to matching V4 50 HP's that really sucked the gas, then found two 1977 V4 140's that looked like they had the same block as the 50's!

I have a 1960, exactly like the one on the port side. I bought it 27 years ago, it had been rebuilt. Fished A LOT in my 14ft shallow V alumacraft. Haven’t run it in a while, I have a bigger boat but still have it. Great motor, great fun.

A friend of the family bought the 1960 new (left over motor) in 1961. By 1970 it wouldn't start from not removing the gas at the end on the season. Carb kit, new tank filter, complete cleaning if the fuel system and other maintenance got it running again. Owner would let me borrow the motor and I would run between 15 & 20 gallons of gas through it each summer. I took care of the maintenance. He passed in 2003 and the family gave me the motor. I still run it some every summer. That's 53 summers I have run that motor on 5 different boats at this writing in 2023.

Back in the early 60's I used to slalom ski behind several different boats. Most used 50hp, but, one had twin 35hp Evinrudes. Loved it. The extra power popped you out of the hole, however, where it really performed was when you made hard cuts. The rear moved much less. Now I'm old and fat and would have to drop a ski. Lol

First boat I ever commanded was a Johnson three horse that looked like your Evinrude on the right side. My cousins down river had one of the blue Evinrude‘s that you had on the left. I always thought they’re much cooler because it said lightning on it. We had such fun going backwards and using it to spin the boat around in a tight circle until you were about to puke. Good Times

@@davemilster.. Yaa i know what you mean Dave. I figure 14-18mph min. It seems they downrated the engines to only 3 hp??? I figure they should be 8-14 hp at a min post 1963. Both engines look clean & in very good condition. With the proper maintenance & upkeep those 2 engines can be passed on to your grandchildren. The engines should be good (and are built) for another 75+ years!! My dad & uncle bought a 14ft "V" boat used but bought a new 40 hp Johnson electric start 1966, on the recommendation of friends. It was the right move. That was the max hp rating for that boat. I learned to water ski & slalom on that boat along with cousins, friends etc. We even got 2 sets of ropes and that lil engine got 2 of us up!!! Gotta love those 2 strokes, plenty of torque. Max speed with 2 passengers was approx 28 mph (maybe more. The speedo always got clogged with sand). With a skier in tow it went down to 25 mph. It was still able to pull me in my late teens when i was close to 200 lbs. My aunts' principle at the school where she worked had a country home on the lake approx 30 miles from our place. At least once in the summer we took our boat over and had a real picnic day. Both boats were 14 ft. But he had an Evinrude 40 hp. Same year as ours. (Both engines had identical parts, both made by OMC but have their own distinque markings). Both boats had similar speeds and characteristics (acceleration, turning, time to plane with 4 pass.) Those were the days of Endless Summer, transistor radios, AM radio, 1967-1974. Thanks for letting me rattle off like that. Those were the best years of my life like the (Bryan Adams song, Summer of '69).

Be difficult. Have to reverse the way the starter turns. A point cam would need to be made or possibly turning it over if you could cut a new key way. The pump won't work turning it backwards so something would need to machined Then there is what to use as prop?
