Commelina diffusa and Commelina benghalensis are two species of medicinal and food plants that in Brazil are known as trapoeraba. In countries with other languages it can be known as hierba de pollo (Spanish), spread dayflower, blue dayflower, bengal deyflower (English), brangbangan (Indonesian), kanchara, kankaua (indi), among other names.
These two plants originate from Asia and Africa, but have been introduced in several countries where they are considered weeds for invading areas of agricultural cultivation.
These two herbs are rich in nutritional properties and therefore are indicated as food plants by scientists. Another benefit of trapoeraba is that it is rich in medicinal properties, including being used as a medicinal plant in several countries.
