My race day run shoe is the endorphin pro 3. I don’t think I run fast enough to make the most of shoe as my half pace is 10min per mile. I am considering the diadora gara carbon for a future race day shoe. If you ever have shoes you don’t use feel free to send them to me as my extended family and friends in Mexico loves my older used running shoes.

The Endorphin Pro 3 is a great shoe. I tend to think making the "most" of a race day shoe isn't really possible for most runners, but that doesn't have to be the case to make them worthwhile. My guess is carbon shoes have a placebo effect and can make runners feel better about their race. The premium materials should make running feel slightly easier too. Re. my unused shoes: all my old running shoes get given to friends or donated locally.

Hey Matt...given you seem to be the running show review guy I have a question. Have you thought of doing a comparison review of all your daily trainers to determine which last the longest. By longest, I mean retain their cushiness after xx miles of use. Given the high cost of running shoes, I sure would like to know that. What do you think?
@its_Matt_B_
6 ай бұрын
This is a really good idea, Steve, but the main problem as I see it is that I generally don't run in shoes long enough to wear out their cushioning. I can say that if longevity is your main concern, then shoes like the Brooks Ghost/Glycerin seem to be my most durable shoes. Mizuno makes some very durable shoes too, specifically my Wave Riders. YEars ago, before I started this channel I would take my shoes up to 450-500 miles, but I was mainly running in Nike Pegasus and Zoomfly back then. I don't have either of them now.

Good looking, fast and great laces! Might give this one a try.... Even an all black colorway... Compared to AF 3? Looking forward to the Speedworks review too!

The black colorway looks sharp and reminds me of a prototype shoe being kept under wraps. I haven't run in the AF3, but it will ride more similar to the AF3 than the VF3, due to the shape of the plate. It sure has that feeling of energy return we're looking for in a super shoe!

Good review, Matt! There's a lot to like about this shoe and it's great to see TYR showing up with such a strong initial effort. I watched this a few days ago and had to think a little bit about it. In my younger days I had a light heel strike on the lateral edge until I got up to around 6 minute pace and then my heel didn't touch. Now that happens closer to 7 minute pace, but 7 minute pace is harder for me to get to now than 6 minute pace was then! The deal breaker for me with this one is the width. I'm an old school guy and I like a narrow racing fit for my racing shoes, and honestly for my training shoes too. I think that's what I've been liking so much with the Endorphin Speed 2/Kinvara 13 combo, that they're both very much on the narrow side. I'm a by-the-book D width but I'm used to that shrink-wrapped fit, and I've never needed or wanted help with stability from running shoes. I'm still casually shopping for my first pair of carbon-plate racers. It looks like Saucony's going to be able to sell the Endorphin Pro 3 down to bare shelves without ever dropping the price, in the US anyway, which I've been waiting on like everyone else. I did watch your review of the original Puma Deviate Nitro Elite and that seems like one I might try, especially with the prices I'm seeing for them.

I've been checking the price of the Endo Pro 3 too and have been surprised it hasn't dropped. I picked up a pair of the Pro 2s for $99 when the Pro 3s came out, so I was hoping for the same pricing. Of course, $99 would make the Pro 3s way too easy of a choice. Puma's DNE is excellent shoe but it's not in the same (performance) ball park as other super shoes, which the price indicates. There is something comforting about a narrower fit. If nothing else, it feels faster!

@@its_Matt_B_ I can only guess that there are a lot of runners who've run memorable races in the Pro 3, and for them it might be worth the price to grab one more pair before it's too late. And I greatly appreciate the comments on the DNE. Here's where I use my usual riff, that people ran pretty well in 2021 and 2022 despite the primitive running shoes available to them at the time.😄I've been having a good time lately mostly running in shoes from that period. And as is often noted, they're the Molly Seidel shoes. I think it could be interesting for history's sake to see what they're like while it's still easy to pick up a pair in new condition.

@@largeeddieOf course you're right about people doing well in those primitive running shoes of 2-3 years ago, and I almost feel bad saying the performance isn't as good as other shoes. In reality the Puma DNE2s will be ideal for some people, as most shoes are.

Hi Matt. What do you think about deteriorating running mechanics that most mid-packers experience at the later stages of the marathon? Do you think this shoe’s platform is forgiving and supportive during those last miles?
@its_Matt_B_
6 ай бұрын
In a nutshell, yes. This shoe is cushioned and supportive enough to work well for mid-packers. It seems the deciding factor will be what shape of plate runners prefer (and to an extent, their footfall). IMO this shoe will work better for runners landing mid-foot than heel strikers, although I assume a lot of runners are like me where i may start more mid-foot but end up heel striking more at the end of a long race.

Good review. For a brand getting into running shoes, their first-generation carbon plated shoe is checking a lot of boxes. To tell the truth, there are some well established brands that hasn't quite figured it yet. Tyr seems to have learned from the competition, but it is not mere copy. They do offer a choice with a slightly wider toebox, low drop, beaded PEBA foam (generally more durable) like Saucony Endorphin series and quite stable platform for someone who needs it.They have decent rubber outsole as well so even if you don't race, they could be a training shoe for some. If I get a chance I will try them. As for your question: what would be my favorite racing shoe? I guess based on my PRs: 5k: Takumi Sen 8, 10k/HM: Vaporfly 2: Marathon: Alphafly 1. But I liked Endorphin Pro 3 and Prime X Strung OG (up to mile 23) as I raced in them as well.
@its_Matt_B_

TYR sure has done well with this shoe, and you're right about the ways they have separated themselves from the competition with some small changes. I'm surprised you favor the Alphafly for the marathon but also like the Endo Pro 3. Of course, I haven't run in any Alphafly, so I've only formed my opinion by looking at the specs and other reviews.

@@its_Matt_B_ I ran an 10Mile and a HM race in EP3 and in the HM race, it was quite good in the race most of the race but towards the end, I felt like it was bottoming up and I was not getting as much energy return or pop. I am a heavy runner, so it could be it and it was a cold, rainy day and I had to go through pools of water in some places, so the performance of the shoe was affected possibly. I will try again in another HM. Alphafly 1 is not a very comfortable shoe and was stable enough, didn't flatten and good energy return throughout. At the time the choice was between AF1, NB RC Elite v2 and Adidas Adios Pro 3. Now there are more shoes available. I ran my last marathon in Prime X Strung OG and paid for lack of stability towards the end. I will revaluate my choices for my next marathon.

Based on the wear marks on my Mach 5, I’m a heel striker on my usual paces and midfoot striker when I try to increase the speed. Can you make a video about race shoe recommendations for this type of foot striking? Preferably those that are stable (like this Valkyrie Elite). Thanks
