I love the game for its choice and consequence. Especially it is the first and only game i have played that made it challenging to be good. The experience that you when you think "oh but i want to help the rebells", you try and it actually is a story line and then you wonder "well i could be tyrann" and then you actually can do this as well was great.

@@vasudean This is one of my favorite ongoing themes of the game. As it unfolded I realized that Kyros's decrees actually mostly ruined what made each of the respective lands the most useful. The population of the place known for its soldiers and war machine was destroyed. Now useless. The farmland of the, well, famous farmland was destroyed. Now useless, probably forever. The archive with one of the best depositories of knowledge in the known world, now wreathed in flames with its precious knowledge all but destroyed (or secreted away, maybe, depending on choices). Kyros's very touch defiles the lands, and every edict ruins that which it touches. The only places in the Tiers worth colonizing were the two places that happened not to have edicts cast on them- Vendrien's Well and Lethian's Crossing. Down with Kyros!
@ultragilig1670

@@JB-xl2jcI think the destruction is the point. Kyros didn’t need the tiers, they had already taken the whole continent. The invasion of the tiers was just to prevent them from being a threat, and because the overlords ego couldn’t stand conquering almost the entire world. (Also potentially to get rid of the scarlet chorus and disfavoured, why else would kyros send two completely incompatible armies together with minimal oversight).

@JB-xl2jc
2 жыл бұрын
Skyrim's atmosphere is incredible, but the writing doesn't stack up to Obsidian's. Writing/dialogue was always Obsidian's greatest strength going back to the Fallout days, PoE etc. Bethesda's greatest strength was always atmosphere and environmental storytelling. Two different approaches, two great games, loved playing both.
@kemanorel3110
Жыл бұрын
@@JB-xl2jc Yeah, I am a bit tired of people saying Skyrim is a poor RPG, because it's just a different flavor of RPG entirely compared to Obsidian's best work. Obsidian excels a lot more at old-school cRPG style games like Pillars and Tyranny, while Bethesda excels at building worlds to just wander around and get lost in. Playing Skyrim without fast travel makes it difficult to do the stories because I'm always going off to see what that thing over there is, exploring it, trying to continue the story I'm on, then finding another thing to check out, heh. Bethesda's work also continues to just scratch an itch that few other developers have hit in open world games, with things like Elden Ring being a notable exception.

@@r-saint Hopefully there are many possible starting points depending on your choices in the first game, Dragon Age Origins style, but even by just picking one as canon, it will still be worth it. Unfortunately, this game seems to have been a peculiar experiment so it doesn't look likely it will be worked upon again. Unless Avowed brings them a lot of money and they revisit this world. In my opinion, they should have made this game part of the Pillars of Eternity world, have it as a separate far away continent or something. Only small connections but it would be much easier to sell and give it a future.

@@r-saint there's honestly enough similarity between the endings that you could load your endgame Tyranny 1 save like you did with each part of Mass Effect instead of establishing that one particular route was the way you went. Every ending has the Tiers meaningfully separate from the broader Kyros Empire in a way that everyone expects will erupt into a direct war within a generation - very much including the """loyalist""" endings.

DeHerg, You're right, Lantry is a Riot. But I have to go with Verse, Eb or Sirin because the one-liners they'll throw you sometimes are just too much; plus Verse is a really good melee follower and Eb and Sirin are both very good mages, plus Sirin's songs. Barik has some fun lines, but most of the time his stern attitude just kills the humour when it isn't its pinpoint. Kills-in-Shadows is just abrasive and annoying to me.
@DeHerg
7 жыл бұрын
"... and Sirin are both very good mages" actually I always turned Sirin into a Tank/two handed Brawler because her offensive songs work best when she is right in the middle of a clash and her head thingy provides lots of armor if properly upgraded at your forge(in addition to all the other armor I slap on her and the initial damage shield she has). Eb to me is just "meh" some innuendo here and there but you can have that already during the banter when the entire party is at your spire.
@yaumelepire6310
7 жыл бұрын
DeHerg, True, but having Eb and Lantry in your party gives you their on-the-spot reactions and interactions with NPC's. They often interact with each other in those, which is... "fun". Also, thank you for the advice about Sirin... I'll take it to heart.

@bakeojiisan7626
7 жыл бұрын
I honestly thought the writing was pretty abysmal. Not sure what to say when the first character that comes my way is a girl that acts like a 14 yo boy and talks about how much she likes killing people and blood-letting. I mean, I'm sure a character like that can be pulled off well, but the "evil" people in this game are pretty much a joke, and the factions are both dumb. I have to say that I was disappointed in Pillars and I still don't consider it up there with the greats (writing once again being at fault), but compared to Tyranny, well... I feel like Age of Decadence is what Tyranny wanted to be - except it's actually good. I guess it's low budget and there's no flash and VA, but at least the writing doesn't make me think I'm reading my cousin's Slytherin fanfics.
@Zysku23456
7 жыл бұрын
bakeojiisan Well, she's from that blood fanatic faction, so it's pretty much obvious she would act like that. And I find the writing really good, since you're on war. Soldier's aren't particulary inteligent most of the times, they're impulsive and use vulgar language. There are people who say some phylosopical things and novel like dialogues. It's pretty obvious you shouldn't expect arcanum, fallout or planescape torment writing since you're dealing mostly with people who are good in fighting, not talking.
@bakeojiisan7626
7 жыл бұрын
Skejven Well, that faction is in and of itself retarded as fuck, yes, but the character is written far worse than she could have been. I mean dude, she's basically a loser with mommy problems. And this is one of the first thing she has to say. And it's not about it being war, nor is it about them being evil. There's plenty of evil characters in fiction that don't talk like... well, like made up fanfic. And that's ultimately the problem. I wouldn't care if it were a grunt coming at me with Hegel quotes - I'd sooner deal with something that's unrealistic than something that's wholly UNBELIEVABLE. And it's funny that you mention soldiers, because you'd be hard-pressed to find any soldiers that have ever acted that way. Ever. This just isn't human behavior. It's not about being good or bad, stupid or smart. It's about creating a believable character. Then again, I'm honestly not sure what I was expecting here. Obsidian has never, ever, written a good game. KotOR II gets so much credit as being a deep and philosophical game, when most of it is just fucking nonsense with no real depth whatever. It truly is like reading something written by a teenager. Arguably, their best game is New Vegas, and that only stands out because Fallout 3 is just so devastatingly awful. I mean, look, if you want a game where people are "evil," I can't think of a better example than Gothic 1. Most people in that game are fucking SCUM, yet they are completely believable. Tyranny is just edgy for the sake of it, and thus fails miserably - and the funnily enough, it's one of the tamest games ever. For a setting that's supposed to be absolutely fucking brutal, it feels like a game whose balls have been cut off. All bark, no bite.
@Zysku23456
7 жыл бұрын
bakeojiisan Well it's easy to explain. In Gothic 1 you're nameless "loser", who was another "bandit" thrown into colony to mine magic ore. Everyone is negative towards you beacuse you're just another person who's worth nothing (atleast for them). In tyranny you're highly placed person that cause fear to everyone. You're supposed to be doing bad things to others, not others to you like it was in gothic (and game succeeds in doing this, since you can split in everyone face and kill them [the only bad thing about it, is having ability to attack everyone]). You can be bad guy in Gothic, but there are not many options to do so and you still need to kill the sleeper, which is good thing (well, not in 100% since you destroy the barrier and you let the criminalists escape).
