(Reupload - originally posted Nov. 14, 2016). Founded in the late 1970s by Bob George, Ed Thayer, and Tony Vaccaro, the United States Hot Rod Association started out under the banner of "Truck-O-Rama" (later SRO/PACE Promotions). From the late '70s into the early '80s, USHRA brought indoor truck & tractor pulls and mud racing to prominence across North America. This organization was also largely responsible for the popularization of monster trucks in the early 1980s, initially as side attractions to the tractor pulls & mud races. In January of 1986, the USHRA hosted "Return of the Monster Trucks," a side-by-side monster truck racing event, at the New Orleans Superdome, which helped boost the growing popularity of monster truck racing. This video pays tribute to some of the best competition at U.S. Hot Rod events in the 1980s.
