I'm really interested in this car. But it's expensive in Japan (Reference price: ¥3,905,000 = USD36264.37. the currency rate is on 2020-07-06). Furthermore, this car is categorized as the car type which is required by the Japanese regulation to take periodic vehicle inspection though usually personal use cars are required to take it once every twice a year. If you buy this car in Japan, the total costs including running costs would pile up a lot.

Sure, comrade! Around 70 thousands of USD would cost to fix "Bukhanka" (Brick of bread). The price tag is just a bubble because in Soviet times that thing is used to be military car, but then they decided to mass produce it for ambulance for a while. At the crisis times of USSR they had issues with quality control and everything went to hell. Nowadays it is a car of dying factory of old nice times when everything wasn't so bad, but Khrushchev started "reformation" and soviet union got rotten slowly. So, the best way is to buy thar car by parts: just buy a car body with chassis. Try to use an other motor, gearbox and everything else. You would get a lot better car for cheap and it would look almost exactly as a regular one. Or you can buy one of those in Russia and modify it, and only after take the car to Japan. Less headache, more easier to get parts and you can find people that are specializing on those kind of cars.
