Great ideas, well thought out! I want one now! All that's missing is a small trailer with big wheels and ground clearance to carry other things, or a teardrop one to sleep in. I'd add a small dirt bike so when the truck breaks down you can ride to get help or parts etc., or explore on a small amount of gas.

I love this build! The only thing I would want to change is the truck color- that red sticks out like a sore thumb in the woods or any other place for that matter. I would wrap that truck in matte black it would be good to go! Other than the color, I would be happy to have that vehicle!!

I'm late to this bbq, but better late than never to comment.😁 I live in NJ and what I have done is, carry a bug out pack in each of my vehicles. Depending on the season, I pack accordingly. Plenty of water, non perishable nutritional snacks, tourniquet, IFAK, and cash. Backpack weighs 20 lb if I need to walk. Jumper cables, flares, flashlight, empty 5 gal. gas can, wool blanket, socks, clothing, stay in a sealed bag/container in the vehicle. You get my point. Great content btw. 👍

Bought a 98 Ranger brand new back in 98. After 22 years of being my work horse, it's getting a make over with: 3" lift, 33s with steel rims sporting 12.50 wide mudders, 1/2 ton Kargo Master holding 4 5 gal jerry cans, a 3x5 basket, and some recovery gear, a hitchgate for my spare, a steel big ass bumper holding my winch and light bar, and some back up lights bright enough to scare Bigfoot. A spray on bed liner with plywood mini cabinets holding a bed to sleep my 100# wife and me will keep us dry under my canopy. Added some small solar panels to power my Yeti to have some light when needed. If I pull my 5x8 cargo trailer, I can fill it with more necessities like ammo and food.

I personally want to build a Tahoe or Suburban adventure/bug out vehicle. Basically the same capability offroad as a truck, but the majority of my stuff can be kept INSIDE the vehicle. I dont have to worry about weatherproof boxes, or even getting out to get into those boxes... I can just climb back and have access to it all. People looking at it just think its another tahoe with dark tinted windows. These truck systems are cool, but they show everyone "Hey, this person has a bunch of stuff/supplies" Trucks like these are highly visible rolling loot boxes. An SUV can look like a soccer mom car but actually be a rolling base camp.

@@Staff2-fk7sv Yeah they're all crap now in some way or another. You just have to maintain them and when they break fix Them on the spot. I still prefer my Chevy's. I plan on building out an express van full spec. I would tell anyone to do the same thing. 2011 or newer, 4.8l or 6.0l V8. It doesn't matter. You can always swap the engine later to and LS3 or L86. That's the advantage of the a Chevy. A 3500-extented. They're not overly expensive or unreliable like mercedes promaster nissan or transits. RWD is all you need. Do not need 4x4 but it helps. All you need are locking diffs. Do not need a lift, but it helps. Stock springs and shocks are fine. Aftermarket high roof makes everything better. High output alternators, and recycled tesla model S battery modules are my top upgrades of choice and high priority. There is no decent off the shelf, off grid, electrical, plumbing, nor h-vac, system available anywhere. DIY is the best way to get the most bang for your buck. But if you don't trust your own handy work there are some off shelf solutions worth looking into. A van is more solid feeling to sleep in than a flimsy fiberglass RV. Insulation helps but it's not that important. You need an active powered system to keep warm or cool, like a 12v aftermarket A/C system ducted into the vans stock ventilation, that doesn't run on the engine. The same can be done with a cheap diesel heater. You don't need a bus, or an RV. Vans are perfectly sized bug out shelter. Steel bumpers, flood lights, winch, blah blah whole 10 yards. No solar panels. No jackery power station. You don't need a storage bed like what's all of van life on KZitem. Just a stock bench or a van sofa. A van let's you have a water system not just carrying jugs. U can use a glycol diesel water heater for hot water. It's extremely cheap, easy to plumb, and run. Even if you don't know how to make rooms inside a van, having electricity, air conditioning, and hot water at the tap, are still worth getting a van over a pickup truck especially for bugout. You can have an entire setup with a shower sink and toilet in a van, that's not a bus, or a box truck, that won't work in a pickup truck. If you're going to get a pully top for your pickup truck, then get a high roof for your van. No brainer and a game changer. A reverse osmosis system for finding water anywhere and making it drinkable is more suitable on a van.
