I started a CSA campaign on MG light this morning, so very nice to see and compare the actual numbers with your MG "run" ! I enjoy your union series as well, thank you very much for all the detailed informations you share!!!

I just tried this again, and got as far as Shiloh before giving up in frustration and uninstalling - I simply couldn't lever the Yankees out of Shiloh Church on the first day, and they kept breaking my own corps, while the fight on the right flank went fine. I'll settle for watching an expert at work!

I'm going to do my best. This campaign is in camp ready for Shiloh now. MG in v1.28.4 can be frustrating and variance can cause a pretty wide range of difficulty within any campaign. It's one reason J&P introduced the MG Light. My hope is to finish both the CSA and Union campaigns in MG and then (once again) try to find my way through LG.

I'm having fun with the campaign, just finished playing Shiloh tonight, so we are looking good. Trying to have Newport News up tomorrow and 1st Manassas up by Tuesday night. Hopefully that will give you some ideas to get you over the hump.

I've got three weeks coming up in Jan to revisit this game using this mod. Previously played it a bit over a year ago with panda's UI/AI fixes but lost all savegames upgrading to new PC and leaving it unplugged for a few months without transferring files in time, so looking forward to it. Just played Potomac fort and the new vet system had me concerned till I found the min starting size for brigades can be adjusted in the config files for optimal stat micro in the army camp screen.

Since the veteran/wounded pools are only affected by player casualties, it isn't much of an issue in the early game as you rely on allied units through Shiloh. Once you get to Gaines and the battles get large, you'll find that your casualties fill the vet pool pretty easily. Getting points into Medicine will further conserve your losses while moving more men from the wounded to veteran pools. It takes a while to get used to the new system. The intent is to slow down the player's ability to become OP early in the campaign, and then the AI can't keep up. I find that by mid-campaign, I have plenty of recruits, weapons, and vets, but I don't run maximum unit sizes. The larger your units, the more apt you are to encounter issues with those three resources. Good luck

A cause of frustration with the J&P mod are those "Now ya see me?....Now ya don't" units that a near by unit MAY or may not fire upon (but gets fired on irregardless..lol). Leaving ya wonder: a) who is he firing on? and b) why can't I (the player) see it? Reckon it makes things a little more even? I dunno!

@@AmosBHaven I know the issues that you are referring too, and it can be frustrating.. They stem from 3 issues from the base game mechanics. 1) Part of the issue is related to how stealth works in the game as units move through cover (mostly with skirmishers) and relative to your distance from the unit. 2) Another part of the issue is the way line-of-sight works in the game but doesn't seem to always apply the same way at each battle. Sometimes, what looks like flat land is actually rolling hills and units disappear when they are in low spots and appear in high spots. 3) Lastly, there are times when the "closed eye" icon will be over a unit, so you assume that you can't be seen, but there are pixels from the unit hanging out of cover that can be seen. Visibility of the pixels will cause the AI to fire whether the eye icon is closed or not. The problem you are describing can be any one of these, or a combination of the three.
