By far the most informative break down of masking I've watched. I'm teaching myself and you soon learn there are good and bad trainers, presenters, content and tips. This video combines all areas. Highly impressed. I very rarely subscribe but have had done so this time. Thank you from Scotland.

I've been watching this video for three hours, tinkering with every feature in Photoshop. I'm only halfway through the video. The thing is, I'm pretty familiar with most of the features that you've discussed so far. It's just that sometimes you need a clear explanation for exactly what it does and how to do it rather than click this, click that which is what happens when you watch a lot of tutorials as I do. But this video has been EXTRA helpful at piecing my knowledge together. Hopefully, it doesn't take me three more hours to get through the rest. Lol. But thanks so much!

Selected area-> gray. unselected area->white. So, Mine shows only the background image and the main camera object is empty. Do you know why,,,?

That was a decent video about masking. A little surprised there was no mention of channel masking, as that is still a legit way of getting nice cutouts. Also creating duplicates of the same layer to do different masks to different parts is a little frowned upon, as there can be weird overlaps (showing hard lines), so it's better to make the 2 masks and safe them out in your alpha channels, and then combine them into one mask and apply it to 1 image layer. Easier to check as well.

None of the examples have the issue I'm dealing with. When the background colors are similar to the subject it's so hard to pick up hair from the background. These are poor photos and selfies that I'm working on. I have one professional photo where the subject is wearing black on a black background! How do you select hair from these types of photos?
@YesImaDesigner
5 жыл бұрын
Lianda Ludwig when you have no contrast in value and hue it is really tough to isolate your subject from the background. There is no quick or universal method for these cases, but you can combine the techniques presented in this video. Custom brushes can be useful too in these cases. I would sometimes simplify the selection itself and draw over the image on a separate layer adding hair detail. It becomes more like a painting technique but it can save you a lot of time and the end result can look a lot better than an totally accurate selection.
