This dish is grilled eel over rice with sweet caramelized glazed sauce; it can be served with sesame seeds, eggs and chopped green onions for garnishing.
The homemade unagi sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for a few months and can be used it for many other dishes like chicken, beef, pork, sea food and vegetables. So prepare a batch of the sauce for other dishes.
Ingredients:
1-2 pre-cooked Unagi fillet package (7 oz)
1 Tbsp of cooking oil
A bowl of steamed rice
Garnishing:
2 eggs: (Whisk eggs, sprinkle some salt, pepper and some Mirin cooking wine and pour into a pan, then cook like a plain omelet, then slice it. Set aside)
Some sesame seeds
Some Chopped green onions
Kabayaki sauce/Unagi sauce:
1/2 cup of Soy sauce
1/2 cup of Mirin cooking wine
¼ cup of Sake
¼ cup of Sugar
Steps:
In a small saucepan, add all the ingredients, stir it constantly and bring it to boil for 5 minutes on medium heat, then when you see the bubbles around the pan, simmer for 5 minutes on low heat or until it gets thickened or condensed. Turn off the heat and set aside. This can be stored in the refrigerator for several weeks.
