Unfortunately you'll get heavy vignette with this adapter on that camera, since it was designed specifically for the original BMPCC, which had a tiny super 16 sized sensor.

Will this kit be usable on the new BM pocket 4K camera?
@FotodioxInc
5 жыл бұрын
It will to some degree. The issue is that the optic in our B4 Magic adapter is designed to enlarge the image circle of a B4 lens to cover a Super 16 size sensor, but because the new Pocket 4K has a larger Micro Four Thirds size sensor, you will get some vignetting. For a closer look at what kind of image you'll get, check out this video we made about mounting our B4 adapters and lenses on Micro Four Thirds sensor cameras: kzitem.info/news/bejne/sWinuJ2jsZtnbHY

Hi Joe, we do carry the B4 Magic kit, which inlcudes a B4 to Micro 4/3 adapter, a power cord and a battery to power a 2/3" B4 lens's zoom motor. Here's the link: fotodioxpro.com/products/b4m-prlx It's sold out, but we should have more in stock in a few weeks. One note: the optic in the adapter is designed to cover a super 16 size sensor. The BM Studio 4K has a slightly larger sensor than super 16, so you will get some vignetting with our B4 Magic adapter.

Unfortunately not, because the new Blackmagic Pocket 4K has a much larger sized sensor than the original HD version, so even with the enlarging optic in the B4 Magic, you will still get some vignetting on the Pocket 4K's larger Micro 4/3 sensor. We've been looking into making a new version of this adapter for the Pocket 4K, but we don't have anything to announce at this time.

We designed this adapter to give you full coverage on the Super 16 size sensor of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, which is 12.48mm x 7.02mm. The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera has a slightly larger 13.056mm x 7.344mm size sensor, so you will get some vignetting with certain lenses and focal lengths.

HI, Using this kit Can I use B4 lense without 2x extender in BMD Studio and Micro Studio camera? Does this have optics in the adaptor? what is crop and light factor?
@FotodioxInc
8 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use it without a doubler--the adapter has an optic built into it that enlarges the image circle of the lens to fit on a Super16 senor. It works on the Blackmagic Pocket, Studio and Micro cameras. The correction optic is 1.4x and your lens will have a light loss of 1-stop.

Hi thanks for this Video, Just want to clarify, The ENG lens in the video, is it the SD (J9/ J14) or the HD version (HJ 22 etc.)? If it is the SD version, would this work on the other Blackmagic cameras like the studio or production series? Finally, is there a crop factor when the lens is on? Thanks
@FotodioxInc
9 жыл бұрын
Hi Vidal, The lens is an SD model but it's rated close to HD resolutions. Our B4 Magic adapter was made expressly for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera, but the Blackmagic Studio camera has the same sensor size, so it should work on both equally well. We cannot guarantee good results on the production camera series due to their larger senor sizes. The B4 Magic includes a built-in optic that gives your lens a 1.4x magnification. This enlarges the image circle of a B4 lens to cover the sensor of the Blackmagic camera. It does introduce a very slight crop factor. Let us know if you have any other questions.

To control the Iris of a B4 lens you need a special communication cable that would communicate between the lens and an ENG camera. We currently don't offer a product that can duplicate this communication, but check out these guys, who have created an interesting solution for this problem: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uH-A3oCBqqWrrYI

My campus TV station is looking to upgrade our equipment on a budget so we were looking at the Black Magic Studio cameras, but reviews rate it poorly for fast moving events (we are looking to use them for remote sports shoots as well) because of the MTF remote control features on the studio cameras. There are a ton of options out there. Getting one with a 2x doubler is a good idea, and an HD version is going to give you a much crisper image. The non HD models don't resolve as well on modern digital sensors and will give you a more retro, softer look.

Wow, Thank you for the info, yes out of my price range just to use an old tv lens...I wonder if there is a way with a combination of doubler adapter and a b4 to canon eos. But then it wont interact with the camera...hummm. I was also looking for a power pack with the right pin configuration perhaps it can externally power the lens and act as a vintage with no talking between the camera and lens....ehh, sound like a waste of time, tho. I also, started a project where I was trying to use my old canon l1 lenses on the eos...lol..went so far as to getting the adapter they made to put eos lenses on the L1 and internally reverse the mounts to see if it could work...in theory it might but I have doubts.....Thank you for your response All the best,MDR

If you are still interested in the answer, I stumbled upon some figures in a Canon BCTV Zoom Lens "Operation Manual". This operation manual is for "BMD" lenses aka B4 Motor Driver (they are Fujinon rebranded lenses from what I understand, some letters seem to keep their "Fujinon" meaning), so with no handle, meant to be operated remotely. The documentation for all the devices in the family (2/3" B4 mount, HD: HJ14ex4.3B, HJ17ex7.6B, HJ18ex28B, HJ22ex7.6B, KJ17ex7.7B, KJ22ex7.6B and KJ20ex8.2B) states: 500mA max for the lens and 120mA max for the IE (Image Extender) at 12V (they seem to support 10 to 17V). Zoom speed for full range is 1.0s and focus speed for full range is 1.5, so pretty fast, slower zooms should require less current. And, yes, getting this information for nowadays devices is already hard, for older devices, I couldn't find any figure yet. From a couple of older lenses I have (Fujinon branded, S14x7.3BMD-D4M and LZ14MD55 (C-Mount)), that both have the exact same motors and electronics, I am confident their is not a lot a different motor / electronics combination out there (they are meant to be powered through the camera, and power delivery is limited). By the way, this operation manual also contains a "back focus adjustment of the lens" paragraph that has proved very handy !
Omg incredible information!🎉 does the adapter ring work with any fujinon lens? Thanks again incredible information
