Never mind the kind words, some municipal official should put this guy in a position where he's paid for his work. The taxpayers would get their money's worth for a change. It would also be hard for the other guys in the crew to be sleeping in the pickup truck with the heat on while the supervisor is working.

Your video reminds me of my first teaching job at an old school in Toronto in the early seventies. Since it was a city school we had no grass in the playground just large area of asphalt. After a large snowfall we had a quick thaw and the whole yard was flooded with about 6 inches of water. There was a drain in the middle of the yard but it was clogged by ice just below the grate. I asked one of my students to go to my room and get a long wooden pole that we used to raise the windows. I used the pole to poke a hole through the ice jam and in about ten minutes the whole yard looked like a river delta

Nice job once again my friend. Yeah you have a couple things working in your favor. Once you expose those drains and get the water running to them, you'll have the ground heat, that will come up out of the drains to keep the snow/ice melting and you also have the road heat, both from the friction of the vehicle tires and the warmth of any sun during the day. This will heat up the water which will quickly melt the ice and snow. You are good man and it's great that you find fun in doing this as you are certainly doing these neighborhoods a great service.

12:18 It is my opinion that most of the snow plows we have would do a better job if the drivers slowed down and dropped the blade another inch or so. They drive so fast and have the blade raised that it doesn't get under the ice. Even if it does as soon as it hits some ice the blade crawls on top and stays there because the truck is moving so fast. Of course that is just my opinion. I used to operate a street sweeper broom to broom off the sand and dirt so we could pave it with asphalt. I was told to slow the power broom itself down but keep the broom sweeper head speed high and it would removed the dirt/sand faster. I've also noticed hat most of these drains don't have the slot in the curb so the debris would fall thru and not clog up the drain.

ODOT plows are set to not touch the road surface to avoid damaging the surface. When the snow is just a few inches deep, then they drop the plow down to the surface when they can see what's on the surface. Sometimes 1 plow follows a lead plow. I was born and raised in the desert so please forgive the lack of knowledge, but.. Does the squishy ice turn to black ice? Do the trails your making cause cars to slide? Or Will that happen on the squishy ice? Does the snow still melt even in rain? Will that freeze the drains and clog them? Btw, I'm 46 and i don't know these things. We don't have that much rain here, it snowed once in like 1979 up I the mountains. Today is June 19th and it's barely 110° today. Summer is still not hot yet.
