As a beginner, I really like your channel, because it is very educational and entertaining. I also found that you have been to many different locations in Ontario for fishing. Do you have any recommendations for beginners in Oakville? Most of the anglers dont want to share any information about their spots, so it is not easy for me to find some locations for fishing? Hope you could also record some videos for beginners. Thank you very much.

You are a good teacher sir! What's the difference between gold, red, and usual color hooks? Which entices the Crappie more to bite with Live minnows/worms. Thanks!!!

gold hooks are best used in "tea-stained" water or murky water, same with red hooks, whereas the typical black nickel or bronze hooks are good under all conditions - so it depends on the water as to which will entice more hits :)

Thanks for the video. On you tube I actually see more anglers than ever using the circle hook on live bait more than any other hook. Especially more than using the Octopus hook. Is it because of the nature of the catching the fish not deeply inside the throat or is it something else?
@thundermistlures

correct - mainly for easy unhooking for catch and release :)

I sometimes use trebles for live bait...only for very large minnows for pike and musky though. I'll use a octopus hook through the mouth area and the treble with one hook bedded beside the spine about half way down. And I usually only do this after I've lost a few minnows to missed pike. I used to run trailer trebles when I was a kid but later found out that is kind of frowned upon here in Ontario,

Your videos are very entertaining and educational! I look forward to the new videos as I really enjoy them. I was looking at your store website and noticed you have several unique items that I have not fished nor seen them used. May I make a suggestion? Can you make videos showcasing each one with several ways of using them? I know you have to some degree, like the peanut butter one (sorry if I named it wrong) as I remember you stating that you were using it. I was looking at the Boa Jig'r and cant search or find how that enticing lure can be used. Thanks for all you do and keep the videos coming!!

Hey Ivo question for you what is the best style of hook to use when fishing off a bridge or pier. I’ve often had difficulty setting the hook when I am up high (using j hooks treble hooks and jigs)
@thundermistlures
4 жыл бұрын
if you're having trouble setting the hook, then try circle hooks - you do not need to set crcle hooks, just start reeling in and they will set themselves :)

I usually use octopus hooks for bait fishing. What about Gamagatsu octopus circle hooks? I think they are a mix of both and I’m not sure if I can still set the hook or just reel into the fish.
@thundermistlures

when using circle hooks, just reel in - no hook setting required :)

You should try big river hook or hooks that look like that.. it got a V look on it... it's like circuit hook that have a baby with the j hook... it got a chance not to get hook on to the fish gut like striper bass and sturgeon... only big mouth fish and it'll give you a higher chance to get a perfect side hook right on the side of the lip... I try it on rock fish but it'll hook them in the gut because of the stomach crusher to crush shell fish food... then one hook i like is the bait hook holder keep the bait on when fish who like to nibble on bait.... and if you like the T-turn try hook on metal swivel it's like the t turn but it have a hook on the other side then a swivel help alot on drop shot and you will get a faster hook up then having a third line u have to pull a bet harder so you can pull the third string to hook on fish with this hook you will only on line not 3

#8 for small one, #6 for normal size to maybe #4 for the biggest. sharpness is very important. they spit hooks like nothing. you will not even feel any bite and you'll have carp eating and spitting your hook back all day if they are not sharp.
@Francois_Dupont

circle hook are good if you catch and release, but you will miss bites. if you want to eat them use a sharp offset hook with a wide throat. also if you plan on using circle hooks, you might want to start using a hair rig. it improve the hook-up rate for carp.

How tight or loose do you leave drag for octopus circle hook

where does the Kahle hook fall into??... bait??? Also why do hooks have different type Hook eyes?? Open Eye , closed Eye and the straight eye?? does it make the hook set different with the different eyes???
@thundermistlures
4 жыл бұрын
kahle hook is a cross between an octopus hook and a circle hook, except it has a larger hook gap - open eye hooks are indented to be used when you want to swap out or add a hook to a lure, quickly and easily - closed eye hooks are able to be changed if using a split ring - straight eye vs bent eye, changes the presentation and the way the hook hangs :)

anyone know of any boat ramps that are still open? looks like they closed everything on the niagara, very sad day. I dont understand this logic, what, we're going to catch covid in the middle of a river fishing by ourselves? seems like the perfect form of social isolation, no, we can't have anyone enjoying themselves now, we gotta shut it down!
