Thank you for this. I don't use vscode on a regular basis. So the simple fact that I was choosing the wrong folder was not something I knew could be a factor in how it performed. I was looking up the error messages I did see thinking they were the reason I didn't see the rest of the icons at the bottom of the page.

Both of these videos leave off a very important step for people that are not coders. You need to say 'OK' and wait for VSC to install PlatformIO which it should do when it detects what's in the folders. It took me two tries to get it to install properly and multiple attempts to get a compile. You should consider including a video on this.

Great information. It took me a while to figure out that I had to start in the Firmware folder. Before I make any changes I copy my last good firmware folder and start with that to change. I never re-use a good folder to make changes to. That way I can always revert to the last good compile and start over.

Yet at the bottom of your screen in VSCode there is a little home symbol and a check mark. THere is no such thing in the VSCode on my computer. I give up.

Hey I've got another question! My Cr10s and Cr10s5 use the same board, same extruder mounting setup (so same extruder offsets and whatnot) and therefore have the same Unified Firmware download. I just installed a Keenovo silicone bed heater with a dedicated digital control box (not connected to the mainboard in any way.) My question is, if I just got done flashing my Cr10s, and the terminal window is still open with my Cr10s settings, can I just scroll back the top and just re-comment the Cr10s settings? Then go about uncommenting the necessary Cr10s5 settings and building the firmware? I just want to shut off the stock bed heater.. Or would I need to close that terminal out and restart the firmware build over from scratch? I know, I'm not terribly great at this kind of thing, so it's not obvious to me that it wouldn't work. I went ahead and applied the settings, then hit "Build" and it built it successfully. I don't want to flash it until I know that it's ok though. I don't want to brick my main board by assuming something.. Thank you so much for your help, whoever ends up answering this!

You can just uncomment the S5 line and the AC bed option to disable the bed control. Then comment out the CR-10s line. I would recommend ditching that separate controller if you can do basic wiring. We sell SSRs that replace the controller and let the printer control the AC pad like the stock bed. SSR Link: www.th3dstudio.com/product/25a-ac-dc-ssr-for-ac-heated-bed/ Wiring info: www.th3dstudio.com/hc/guides/wiring-information/ac-bed-wiring-with-a-ssr-for-control/

Sounds like you have a color screen so if that is the case you also have to update the LCD firmware. If you have a Creality Touch Screen model those will not work with our firmware and require an LCD kit to convert them (the firmware pages state this if a printer needs a LCD conversion kit installed).

Great video! Thank you so much for putting this together. I followed the steps to generate a firmware for my Ender 5, but I ended up getting a .hex file rather than a .bin file, any advice on how to get the bin file? Thank you
@TH3DStudio
Жыл бұрын
If you get a hex file that is for an 8bit board. Read the directions on the download pages and make sure you are using the correct firmware for your printer. Bin files are only for 32bit boards that flash over the SD card. The 8bit boards update over USB. All those details are on the firmware pages.

You went through all the things someone might do wrong, but you never actually said what to do when you DON'T mess it up and you are successful. So I'm looking at "success" and I have this .bin file over on the left hand side... so now what? I think I found it in the Creality folder in the build folder, but when I put that file on my SD card and plugged it into the printer, all I get is the blank "Creality" bootup screen (which is what I bought this product to fix). What am I missing?

If you are opening up the firmware correctly and the check mark is not showing it could be due to the toolbar being hidden OR you don't have platformio installed in Visual Studio Code. Here is our setup guide for VSCode: support.th3dstudio.com/helpcenter/vscode-setup-guide-for-unified-2-and-marlin-2-firmware/ Here is about the toolbar missing: support.th3dstudio.com/helpcenter/vscode-platformio-toolbar-missing-how-to-fix/ If you do need help we have a per-incident (aka per ticket) charge of $25 to help you with any printer issue. OMG This is so confusing. I got all this to work, but could not find motheboard in folder for build. Then on top of that, no idea how to get it to my machine. From what I have read I have to buy some other machine to even update it because being the CR-10 first version it does not allow to do it from sd card like most other printers.
@TH3DStudio
Жыл бұрын
The original CR-10 needs a bootloader to be loaded on to its board to update since its the old 8-bit board. We have that kit here: www.th3dstudio.com/product/arduino-uno-bootloader-flashing-kit/ Personally, I would just upgrade the board to our EZBoard V2 or the Creality V4.2.7. Both of which we carry on our website.

So, I may have missed it, but I am guessing here. When you compile, and when I do this as well I get it successfully, and it lists the environment as STM32F103RET6. this is the confusing part. I "think" that references the cpu on the board? But mine has this printed on it: GD32F303RET6 My problem is, I have uncommented BOTH lines you instruct us to on "Use Your Own Printer Name", but it keeps showing TH3d as the printer name after reboot. What am I missing? And I did reset the EEPROM
@TH3DStudio
Жыл бұрын
The environment is for your CPU type. Those GD CPUs can usually run the STM code just fine but in the event that it doesnt, you can compile for the GD CPU by changing the environment name (this is all detailed in the platformio.ini file). As for why your printer name is not working it may be due to the firmware not actually flashing assuming you have the lines properly uncommented.
