A while back I used your 8-5-3 approach to get a 3 plate Bulgarian split squat Doing your strong side first definitely makes you push harder.

Since I went unilateral and "technique cyborg" on my lateral raises, my shoulders are slowly becoming my best body part, and have evened out.

Just started to incorporate SSB Split Squats on my second lower session so this came at the perfect time! Thanks, Faz 🔥🙏

Just want to say Faz, I've been doing your Wizard routine for a month and I can tell I've made a lot of gains. Keeping rest periods strict has been an absolute game changer for me. My body is also thanking me for not jacking up my joints with compounds lifts 4-6x a week.

I’m with you the whole imbalance thing. I’ve still got a bit of a left/right size imbalance with my chest and lats, but it’s way less nowadays (and is probably more noticeable to me than others). Ive never really done much unilateral work but just putting more muscle on my frame has given me probably 90% of the solution (and I expect I’ll have the other 10% if I can get bigger).

Excellent. I’ve always done the 3rd method as it just made intuitive sense. Nice to know I’m not an idiot 😂

Interesting take about starting with the stronger side. Will keep it in mind when I get some heavy ass weight for training my legs again.

I was always doing the safest method, you opened my eyes to the jacked intellectual method, I'll try it with my DB Rows and Powell Raises

I like the jacked intellectual approach. I'm doing one-arm chin-up training right now and what I had been doing is alternating left first/right first from one session to the next. But I think your approach is better so I'm going to do that now.

Great idea. I think the myo reps here is a great way to match intensity and volume

I'll have to try out this third method. I've never considered it before. It makes a lot of sense.

Hey Faz, On your 8’s, 5’s, 3’s protocol, Is it okay to add 2 higher rep back off sets after 5’s & 3’s or would that just be pointless volume? It feels good to me
@Fazlifts

If it feels good, crack on I personally wouldn't though. I'd get extra volume in with variations and assistance

This is really good advice. I can say I never have paid much, if any, attention to imbalances but I know they exist. I think if I did care to address, I like your start with strong side suggestion first.

Whenever I do unilateral work with the default (safe) method, the other two come to mind, especially when there’s a big rep gap. It feels like the other side didn’t get adequate stimulus/I’m not working hard enough. Cool to see someone else also thinking about this. I’ve done the “jacked intellectual” approach a few times on a whim and I think I’ll run it across the board forward. Thanks!

single arm chest supported rows are fantastic, great stretch and contraction, easy to bias either lats or upper back.

Solid information, I have been hitting my strong side first on Bulgarian split squats for some time, initially I had to use a lot of sets to match the right leg now their almost on a level playing field. I have read that there can be an increase in strength on one side even if you only train the opposite side due to some neurological mechanism, have you any experience with this? I have experienced this coming back from some injuries where I continued to train the healthy side, once healed the strength seemed to come up quickly. Thanks for posting

I've always felt starting with my dominant side made the most sense. For machine unilateral lifts I can usually rest pause my way to match. The only time I've found it doesn't work great on is for smaller muscle groups like biceps (especially preachers) where it's pretty obvious I'm done and rest pause might be asking for an injury. 😎

Regardless of whether or not unilateral exercises have any specific benefits for legs I think performing some sort of bulgarian split squat at least once weekly is great for training the will to live (nothing else in the gym is as hard as them). I like to do them on the smith machine after good mornings (on the same day as good mornings because I usually have two rest days after).

Yea I've usually done the safe approach of weak side first and match with the strong side. I do like the intensity technique in theory and may try it but I wonder how that'd go on like split squats lmao

Hey Faz. I started training calves 6months ago after 10 years of training haha. But my right calf do not grow angway close as fast as left one. Do you have any idea why?
@Fazlifts
3 ай бұрын
Yeah that's actually pretty normal, the reason we have weak sides is due to nueromuscular connections. Our brains send signals to our muscles and that's how they fire, weaker sides generally do not have the same level of signalling. You can also see this in the very genetically gifted bodybuilders, they lift seemingly light weights but their muscles just fire supremely hard. Now this does improve over time, which is why I say that with practice these things even themselves out. If you are concerned then of course, try doing them unilaterally and employ the techniques in this video.
