Thank you for your videos. Without your work, most of us would not see this beautiful machine. From 9:00 to 9:30 about 140 revolutions, over 66 mph or 107 kph.

Incredible running! She is perhaps at 75MPH here, with no real effort, and gives the impression that 100MPH could be reached quite easy if the regulator was kept open. Is 75MPH the permitted max speed for mainline steam excursions in the US? I know it is 75MPH in the UK, unless the allowed top speed for a class is lower than that. Special permission was issued for A1 Tornado to do a test up to 100MPH, and after that some locomotives may get permission on some stretches to run at 90MPH.

I am just an amateur rail fan, but, I understand that UP 844's rated speed is 120mph. However, I understand that, oftentimes, the track speed limit is much lower, and UP Steam is about preserving history, not breaking records. But, I should mention that I don't know all the ins-and-outs of their whole operation. I just watch for fun. You also might want to check out their website at www.upsteam.com.

dogmannz not at all they did not need it until Gooding and then after that Reverse. the reason why the engine was needed past Gooding is the bridge is out and past Glenns Ferry is the steepest grade on the OSL the 2.5% Reverse. in 2010 844 attempted to go up it light that was a bad idea because once they got past Bliss the brakes on the Dome car failed and they had to replace them when they got to Albina. although 844 is a sort train they still need helper for the grades of Southern Idaho.
