The Ox is a game changer for home players and studio work. 2.5 years since it's release and people are still asking this question and finding how impressive that it is. If you want to use your own amp, pedals, etc and don't want to peel the paint off the walls all the time, or don't have access to an iso booth, the Ox is the best solution out there.

As you know Chris I’ve had mine for over 2 years now and I wouldn’t be without it. It’s an essential part of my setup for practicing. The ability to record everything when I need to and to choose whether to play through the cab, monitors or headphones is just great. It’s been an extremely worthwhile investment.
@jasong546

Matt Birtwistle hi there. Can I ask you a question? I am using a device called a radial headload prodigy to attenuate, and to hear my tube amp through headphones and I love it, but I have to try to balance my monitors with the amp if I want to play to backing tracks and it doesn’t work well. You mentioned practice. Would you be able to use the ox to play with tracks, from the computer or device so it sounds better? I don’t want to buy a modeling amp that has an aux input unless I have to. I like my amp. What can the ox do along those lines?
@mattbirtwistle6188
4 жыл бұрын
Jason G hi Jason. I have my Ox connected to my audio interface (focusrite 2i2) which is then connected to my computer. So I play backing tracks on the computer and everything works out fine. I don’t struggle with balancing volume levels. What’s even more useful is that recording is a doddle. I just open my DAW and I’m good to go.
@jasong546

I've had the OX now for almost 2 years and its literally the best studio tool I've ever owned. Had every attenuator, impulse, plugins, amp sims, etc. But never did a solution come together so elegantly and simply while sounding and feeling this good. 99.9% of the time I use mine in the studio without a cabinet but it's also great to use when working on amps as a load or an attenuator to test out the work. I'd love to have the ability to run 2 cabinets in the OX software, but otherwise it's perfect.

It still sounds a little, I don't know, fake maybe? The full on speaker emulation mode I mean. I would be curious to try it in person though. I'm sure it's great As an attenuator. That doesn't involve trying to fake a speaker I guess. I like the idea of it anyway but the demo here has left me with some questions. I could be wrong of course. KZitem audio isn't great. It isn't even good actually.

Getting an OX Box literally changed my way of practising and recording: I love it. I agree with the live application use, although i've found that its good for giving the sound engineer some options and can make sound checks a lot easier when they've got a decent stereo feed coming from you. It's not the easiest thing to lug about though, they need to make a carry case for it and there's always some prat that uses it as table for their pint...

A word of warning -- I tried two different Oxes (Oxen?) for silent practice. I had to return both because no matter how I set the levels, they introduced subtle but nonetheless very noticeable digital fizz to clean sounds using both my amps (a vintage 1965 Fender Princeton and a 2011 Mesa TA-30). Maybe this is only a serious issue for those who want to practice silently and those most interested in clean sounds, but for me it was a deal killer.
