You're one of the only people on here that maps foot to hip in each position and demonstrates how to create leverage. This is something I came to learn on my own but without the formal background, so your guides are really filling in the gaps for me. Big thanks!

Connor, chronic tension in the iliopsoas muscle is just as likely to cause lower back rectification as lower back extension. Being multiarticular it can incide on the femur thru insertions in troc men, but can also incide on its reflection over the pubic bone, pushing it backwards into retroversion causing rectification of lumbar spine. Infact the iliac portion is more likely to cause lumbar extension (this part of iliopsoas is monoarticular) while the psoas portion is more likely to cause rectification. If you ever saw someone with an abscess on the psoatic portion you would know what i mean, complete rectification. Refer to Leo Busquets, Muscle chains, though im not sure it is translated to english

What do you mean by the word INCIDE? I don’t know that. 1. archaic : to cut into (as a lesion or tissue) 2. archaic : to cause loosening or resolution of (as phlegm) I would guess maybe you speak another language than English and perhaps it’s causing me to be unfamiliar with your terminology.

This! I really appreciate your question-it’s quite thought-provoking and highlights the importance of understanding how muscles like the psoas and QL influence posture. Building on your point, I think it’s helpful to distinguish between the psoas and iliacus when considering their roles in movement and spinal mechanics. In PRI, we tend to look at the two muscles separately because of their different attachments and biomechanical influences on the femur, pelvis, and lumbar spine. Specifically, with regards to ‘lumbar spine rectification’ (flattening of the lumbar curve), this might be more iliacus-driven in some cases. While the psoas tends to contribute more to lumbar extension due to its spinal attachment, the iliacus-through its influence on pelvic and femoral positioning-can contribute to a compensatory flattening or reverse curvature of the lumbar spine. However, this is part of a larger pattern where other muscles, like the glutes or hamstrings, etc. might also play a role in influencing pelvic tilt and spinal curvature. For example, individuals with a swayback posture-who might feel tightness in their psoas or QL-could actually be engaging their iliacus and other muscles to create this lumbar rectification. These people often compensate by clenching their glutes, locking out their knees, and hanging on their ligaments for stability. The iliacus might contribute to posterior pelvic tilt in this case, but it’s important to recognize that other muscles also contribute to the compensation. On the other hand, someone with more of an anterior pelvic tilt and deep lumbar extension might show more of a psoas-driven pattern, often accompanied by rib flare and a flattened thoracic curve. This makes a practitioner’s approach different depending on whether the compensation is iliacus- or psoas-dominant, but it’s always important to look at the entire chain of muscle activity and compensations. Anyways, I appreciate your comment! It really got me thinking. I'll definitely have to check out Busquets muscle chains.

I had a client several years ago who came to me to tell me that she was having problems with her ql. And she indicated the referral pattern. And then I said that most likely wasn't the ql it was ilio soaz, and she's like oh. Then I asked her if anything traumatic happened so and so years ago because she said she had no problems prior to that. And she said nothing traumatic. And then she proceeded to describe that she was ice skating on a lake, and one leg stopped moving and the rest of the body didn't. To which I responded that might not have been traumatic to you, but your muscles think a different story. So we worked on the iliosoas and the quads, and then the ql, in the groups and lo and behold she could start putting her socks on again.

Could this be triggered by a weak glute region on the same side as the tight psoas and QL? And if we rebuild the strength in the hip/glute region, the QL and psoas would therefore let go of their tension?

Hello, thanks for this fabulous info I do have this issue. Can this also be done with the 90-90, ball 'tween knees move? Which first or does it matter? I get to a point I am unable to walk unless I (1)get adjusted or (2)my hubs helps push my hips out. I did do the 90-90 yesterday and it kept me comfortable till today.

My QL and psoas on one side are trying to do the job of my SI joint ligaments. I got prolotherapy in the SI ligaments and am more or less stable but it’s a muscle splint and unless my SI joint ligaments gain full function it’s just always going to be tight and funky there. Also I’m hypermobile. I’ve got a lot of muscle splinting.

I get those too. in the instructions for doing a glute bride - I have seen a fix for that. it tells you how to change. I can’t remember exactly what it is and I don’t have space to get down on the floor here to try it and test. It’s either bring your feet closer or bring your feet further away. I think it has to do with pushing your feet away from your hips or pushing your feet ,while they’re staying on the floor, closer to your hips. Putting the pressure horizontally and moving the position of your feet in relation to your knees - each changes what muscles are being favored. It’s a little late here and I’m dictating. I hope something about what I said rings a bell for you.
