I have a fragrance allergy and am part of a support group online. Everyday we get more and more people. We can not have normal lives now because of companies overuse of fragrance in their products. I have heard 1000s of really sad stories of people who have lose friends jobs and families gatherings because of this stupid allergy. I no longer have a normal life because of bath and body works, sephoria and lush. Don’t push our experience aside just because you don’t have this allergy. I have passed out in a yoga class because some idiot had to wear perfume to do yoga. I felt my throat close up. It took 2 days for the migraine to go away. @Joseph Cheung i understand. Strongly fragranced products irritate my skin and it gets instantly red and flushed. I would say, those products with minimal to no fragrance don't. But I understand - it is an umbrella term, and products are formulated with a lot more possible irritants.
@krizzyfire
3 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Cheung hi yes, that's what I said in my previous reply -- i understand, it's an umbrella term. Also yes, some essential oils are fragrant and irritating in nature, I get that they mask these as being "all natural, organic". It doesn't mean that if one has fragrance (minimum or not), that it's the only irritant. It's a combination of products scientifically formulated to create a mixture for a dozen of purposes. Mainly there are a couple of purposes for these product formulations: Maintain product integrity, potency, absorption, and chemical efficacy... just to name a few. As I said, I understand what it means. Also yes, it most definitely is a marketing tactic, so are pink and blue razors. For my skin, it's best for me to read the ingredients and check them out for my skin - and how it reacts. And I can deduce that most fragranced products tend to trigger my eczema. No worries man, skincare is a science and I get where you're coming from. I know all you want to do is educate and I respect that.

My issue with fragrance is that a lot of things irritate my skin and when 'fragrance' is on the ingredient list, I can't single out a specific ingredient to avoid the way I can with octocrylene or whatever else makes my face sting. I don't avoid fragrance like the plague, I have a few products that contain it that don't bother me but I prefer it when all of the ingredients in my skincare that are listed by name. It also bugs me a bit if I have to avoid a product that might otherwise work for me because they chose to include an ingredient that the product would function the same without. It's like vegans and Red#4. I also am inclined, maybe incorrectly, to think that there are more people who don't realize that their skin is being irritated by their skincare products than people who are paranoid about ingredients. Until recently I simply thought that having a perpetually red and blotchy face was my lot in life.

Also, for those of us with sensitive skin, it's really best to avoid fragrances because there's a very good chance they'll be irritating. Re CBD/hemp oil, I'm skeptical as to the benefits. I would like to see more research on this. Unfortunately, US law at the federal level makes this extremely difficult I hope that in the near future, we'll see changes that will allow the research to happen. Until then, I for one won't be spending my money on products just because they contain CBD or hemp oil. (I might add that recreational marijuana remains illegal in the US state I live in.) In addition, there are many studies that show that vitamin A affects fat (if you google something like retinoic acid fat loss pubmed). It shaped my lack of self confidence till I was an adult. I finally used Accutane about of desperation. It worked..who cares about a healthy liver when your young. Lol, but not I realized only then I never looked people in the face. Cause I was hiding my face from everyone. I was 23 before I would look right at other people to talk. It affected every aspect of my life and I dont feel many people get it. Unless they had that type of acne. Totally different then some pimples on my period type acne. Your the stuff and thanks again

The best treatment of acne is accurate or whatever it's called in your country. I kept buying product that were supposed to help and it didn't work. So I went to a dermatologist and at first she just gave me BP and retinol cream and it barely does anything. The BESt thing is accutane, it works from the inside and it truly get rids of everything. I've been off for a 7 months now, and so far so good, I havent got any other pimple,

Accutane (Isotretinoin) is usually a last resort because it is complicated in the USA due to the birth defects as a uterus-having person. You have to get pregnancy tests and whatnot every month. I did it too and loved it!! It only lasted me a year with clear skin once off it, I have poor luck, so I might have to do it again but I very much always recommend it to people too! 😊💕

Thank you for this wonderful video, Cassandra!. People always go by hearsay and never actually research their stuff. I really miss silicones in my shampoo, which have been, for the most part, replaced by polyquats nowadays. Ironically, I seem to be allergic to the latter, experiencing a weird sensation in my throat and slight nausea after use, and it also causes massive build ups on my scalp leading to dandruff.

OMG THANK YOU for this video. I keep seeing fragrance being absolutely demonized and I am sick of it, honestly. I've used fragranced skincare all my adult existance and my skin can be finicky but I've never had issues with fragrance lol...so the myth about fragrances being the devil is frustrating. Like you said, it depends on the person, but the vast majority shouldn't just automatically avoid all fragrances all of a sudden if they have no issues.

There's the other side of that that says that even if you have no reaction to fragrance now, you still have the potential to develop contact dermatitis at some point. So it's more preventative. Though, the issue seems to be more with products you leave on the skin as opposed to products you can rinse off.

So I went through all of HS and the beginning of university washing sporadically until I read an article about how french ladies use Micellular water to cleantheir faces. It's been 5 years and I haven't looked back. I can do my entire routine in my room from washing to serum to moisturising to makeup AND IT ACTUALLY GETS DONE. Just by eliminating the need for a tap.

The no glycolic acid advice has nothing to do with skin lightening. And it's only glycolic acid Dr. V is talking about, she regularly recommends other acids. She believes that the small molecules of glycolic acid can cause inflammation that can result in pigmentation problems. As a black woman I don't believe that information is offensive or a disservice. I love what glycolic acid does to my skin so that advice wasn't something I took.

As every skincare product, it depends on each individual. I am black too and glycolic acid irritates my skin. The feeling was close to a burn feeling. I used the Glow Tonic from Pixi that everyone recommended me and it was just not it. I could not even finish the first week. The product made it to the trash. Salicylic acid on the other hand is THEBOMB.COM Amazing as an exfoliant.

@@CarmenxSullivan Yes, the video I'm talking about, Michelle says when you are not receiving direct sunlight indoors, only reflected light through the windows, like I do here in the winter; applying sunscreen is not as important as it normally is because the amount of UV rays you really receive is minute. But Cassandra, isn't one of the major points in clean beauty to avoid ingredientes that can be bad for the environment, such as petrolatum? Ingredients that can be bad because they'll end up in the water after we wash them off in the bath, or because of their sources/extraction processes, such as composes that come from petroleum? I don't think the example of citric acid applies to that, although I loved to hear your point about us being able to product larger quantities in the lab than "from the dirt" and with less waste! But there are some other nice factors around clean beauty, for instance: at least here in Brazil, a lot of clean beauty brands support small comunities (specially women!) by creating jobs around plantations and with extraction processes that don't harm the soil etc, so I think there a lot of cool things to think about :) Do you have more videos talking about eco-friendly skincare or about clean beauty? I love your videos, thank you for sharing so much information, and also for being so nice and sweet in the way you speak :)

I really enjoy your videos and I love that you discuss skincare logically and you try to keep an open mind. I think because "Clean beauty" is a very broad term and that there is no clear definition for it, a lot of people with very different points of view have been grouped together under its labe and many of them are very misunderstood. I, for one, am a follower of science and I'd like to get actives in appropriate concentrations; I'm not a fan of essential oils or home remedies and I'm not fixated on "Naturally" derived ingredients however I'd like to avoid many of the controversial ingredients because I don't see the benefit of using them while there are many alternatives readily available that perform just as well. I think we should be striving for better and safer ingredients. I understand that the molecular structure of the final product is not necessarily the same as all of the individual ingredients and that a chemical change occurs which changes the final chemical structure and that concentrations are very important and some compounds while in lower percentages are absolutely safe. For instance Lye solution is used in soap making yet Lye is highly toxic but when the sopanification process is finished there is no more lye in the final product therefore soap is a absolutely safe to use topically. Plus many chemical changes are non reversible so once the transformer is completed, it's not going back. But some of the ingredients that are deemed as controversial can in fact be detected in the final product and in many cases the concentration do surpasses the authorized amounts when investigated by third parties! And since we do have alternatives I fail to understand why we are still using them! Why are we so focused on "Safe" and not on "Optimal"? If you look at the formulations and ingredients they are very similar, almost a carbon copy from one another yet we have more brands than we've ever had! With this number of brands competing there should be a lot of testing and studies and efficacy controls but there's not a huge amount of more and smarter scientific innovation. Everyone is claiming that they're making revolutionary products when they are private labeling a cheap and outdated formula! When a lot of people in the skincare community dismiss the idea that maybe some of the ingredients that are commonly used in formulations are not the best that we could be using in the 21st century, and label everyone who agrees with some of the Clean beauty's criteria, fearmongerer or anti-science, the conversation cannot progress productively! I think we should be constantly challenging science and trying to discover better, safer and more effective ingredients and be holding higher and higher standards for safety, performance and quality. Of course everything should be (and has been to a certain extent) rigorously tested and be proven effective by multiple researche teams.

Agree with every single rule except number 10! The UV index is a 1 maximum where I live and I don't need sunscreen indoors or outdoors during the harsh winter months. Not everyone needs sunscreen every single day and no your other skincare products are not futile if you're not wearing sunscreen. It truly is a myth but I understand that KZitemrs repeat this myth to try and get everyone in the habit of regular sunscreen wear which could be beneficial in the long run.
