I love that one of the first things you do is turn off the freaking auto exposure! That has to be my most hated effect that games have tried to simulate. Stupid eye adaptation. This is seriously one of the best lighting tutorials for UE4 I've seen. Wow, thank you!

Nice video. Hint: When you want to copy x, y, z, parameters/coordinates of location, rotation or scale... In Details panel right click on what ever you want to copy (location, rotation, scale), click "Copy" and then repeat the same thing where you want to paste it and you gest it just click "Paste" : ) It will automatically paste all (x,y,z) parameters. No need to write down anything.

This is great. Would it be possible you could make a video on lighting an indoor scene for realistic FPS games using dynamic lighting only? I am planning to mix it with assets like Modulated Dynamic Lights or Simple Light Painter to add low cost lights and provide indirect lighting without casting shadows. Or going fully dynamic isn't really an option? Thank you

Hey there... I brought in my own building from Maya (a simple model based on a cubed room, with thick walls and three front windows). The model was UV'd. I followed your directives as accurately as I could, but I was still getting a kind of generic, default light look, with no shadows at all. I decided to up the model's overridden light map res to 256, selected two-sided lighting, and set it to static. (Don't ask me why, I was experimenting and trying random things.) I then blew out the skylight, as per your tutorial, but the room was just too bright. So, I brought it back down to a brightness of 1.0. I also made sure I was on the production-level setting for the light build. Now, the lighting started to look more natural after all of that, though the light cast onto the wall and floor through the windows had soft edges (I would expect harder edges with a bright sunlight source), but the overall effect was still better. However, when I did your lighmap density analysis, the whole room was blue. No variations anywhere. Perfect, total blue. Bear in mind I have older, GTX NVIDIA cards. I realize that these are limited in what they can do with Unreal.

Blue checkers or solid blue? If it’s solid blue your lightmaps have issues. If it’s checkers then it’s fine.

Great tuts, loved every second of it! By the way, my model doesnt react the same way as yours do, for example when deleting all the lights, there was no reflections or anything, then when I scaled up the inverse sphere, the model still doesnt react and didnt get any brigther, worse, it stays black. Do you know why this happens? Thanks
@GAMAschool

You might have to lower the sky distance threshold to something like 5000. Set the skylight to stationary and scale down the threshold until your scene lights up.

If it shows bad size it means it’s intersecting with collision. Try moving it up and away from the floor. Also turn on show/collision and check to see if there is any purple boxes intersecting.

question, this is baked lighting and static, for a "game" is it depend on the direction if it's going to be dynamic or not? is the "last of us" use dynamic lighting next-gen?
@GAMAschool

Most games use a mix of static and dynamic. A lot of the environment is static but if lights need to be turned on or off those will be dynamic. The flashlight is dynamic. Here is a talk on the lighting. www.gdcvault.com/play/1020475/In-Game-and-Cinematic-Lighting
