Thank you. Very straight forward and you are easy to understand! I just watched another video and could only understand about half of what was being said.

Any leads on where to find the cheaper keys (retail?) that aren't "stolen oem keys" (Grey-market global keys)?

I have a retail Win 10 Pro key that is no longer being used. (The old PC crashed and I had no opportunity to disconnect the key.) Can I use that retail 10 pro key to upgrade a newer laptop with an oem Windows 11 home key?

Leo, Are there any advantages to upgrade to Pro for Joe Average that uses the computer for primarily web surfing, email and a few documents? Thanks. JimE

Depends on Joe. Some folks want better control over BitLocker, others want the Group Policy Editor, and others want Remote Desktop. More info here: askleo.com/whats-difference-windows-10-home-vs-pro-editions/

Hi, great to know I'll need my MS user name & password to get back into my pc after the upgrade. But I noticed you had to go thru authentication? Does this mean we also have to have the authenticator app on our phone to complete the upgrade ? thx

My Microsoft account has two-factor authentication turned on. If you don't, then you shouldn't need it.

does not work on new Dell Inspiron with Windows Home Edition installed already. It recognizes that it is a Pro key but stops upgrade before any percentage update starts. Any ideas?

I have bought a Legit OEM Key but it says I have the wrong key for my computer. I have also tried the Pro generic key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T to just get the upgrade by itself. It starts to like I said above and then quits before it even starts to get the updates.

How about windows 11 home single language to pro?

Still $99 in July 2024. I think that's a bargain really when you consider you get what you pay for and won't have to worry about scammers & malware.

My computer had Windows 10 Pro and when it upgraded to Windows 11, it upgraded to Pro for free.

So that's a Pro-to-Pro upgrade which is expected. It's Home->Pro that this video is about.

Question: If upgrading an OEM version from "Home" to "Pro", does that upgrade stay with the machine? Can one transfer the "upgrade" to a newly purchased "Home" machine if the old machine is restored to "Home" edition?

OEM keys are locked to the specific machine (usually the motherboard). They are generally much cheaper though.

What to do if we have forgotten our Microsoft account password? I tried everything on the internet but I am unable to retrieve my account password and therefore upgrade to pro. Even ms support requires to log in to the account first. It's absurd!

Not sure what "everything on the internet" includes, but the right (and only) way to proceed is to try to sign in to a Microsoft service onlin e (outlook.com will do), and use the "forgot my password" approach to recover your password. If that can't be made to work you might want to set up a new Microsoft account (DON'T forget the password this time, AND set up all the account recovery info), and then re-associate your PC with that new account. It MIGHT take a reinstall of Windows to do that.

@@askleonotenboom Thank you for your response. So, I bought a new laptop last week and created an account with hotmail at the store. I forgot the password for that account and tried to recover the password following instructions after clicking on "forget my password", but I am stuck in a loop. It does not work. It now shows some error code. There is no way to reach MS support! I have created an additional account with gmail BUT I don't know if logging out of the hotmail MS account would be a good idea as I may lose access to original Windows and not be able to log back in, which may mean I may have to purchase the whole software separately!

Since Windows was activated on the machine a clean install should just work. Like I said, create a new Microsoft account, and use that to set up Windows from scratch. You can download Windows from Microsoft and create a setup disk to use.
