My wife is on her third Honda Jazz now and she's had 15 years of fault-free driving. We recently gave her 2014 3rd generation model to our adult son, and we found a 2019 model with only 12,000 kms on the clock with full service history. Feels like a new vehicle. On a recent trip to Japan we saw current model (4th gen) Honda Fits everywhere, especially hybrids. It just amazes me that Honda Australia stopped importing these. I've noticed however that grey imports are now available in Australia.

Keen to try the 1.5. Dad had a 1.3 and it was just awful. You had to rev the nuts off it just to make forward progress and it was the first car I've driven that actually encouraged you to drive at 10 below the limit like a grandma. If the 1.5 has some actual guts, that might be fun.

Prices for the jazz have gone up in the past 5 years here in Aus. I bought a 2009 GE auto 1.3 with the safety pack in 2019 for $6600. Had 100,000 km on the odo. They're still selling for more than that now. It is an excellent car, reliable and cheap to run and fun to drive. Goes ok on the highway. The most expensive service was to replace the fuel filter, the back seat has to come out to get access.

I owned a 2012 model automatic Honda Jazz 1.5 litre. It was a great little car, and my daily driver until in June 2015, my wife died due to heart failure while driving it. After that, I just couldn't bear to keep it. However, my adult daughter bought a Jazz in 2018, and still drives it daily. Her husband is a drum teacher, and a drummer in a band, and the Jazz swallows all his gear when he needs to go to a gig. You are right to say that the 1.5 litre engine is the one to go for. I have two jazz/fits, a first gen GD and a third gen GK. I’ve owned a lot of different cars and these are some of the best allrounders out there. The GD has really short gearing (3100rpm at 100km/h), and could do with some more legroom (I’m 6’4”) but it’s more fun to drive than a GK, it feels more like a classic Honda. The GK Jazz is more comfortable. A good compromise is the second gen GE, same as in this video. Change the spark plugs regularly (especially in the twin spark models) and do an occasional valve adjustment and these cars are bombproof.

Everything else checked fine. I sourced another reo bar & bolted it on. It was auto but it had the flappy paddles. For a tall bloke like me, it fit me well & the space is unbelievable. The only problems they've had is that replacing the headlight globes can be a pain & parts from wreckers can be hard to find. I've never seen it have rust but when they got it, I got cavity wax in all the areas where rust can occur. Driving it around town & parking is so easy. Highly recommended for someone who wants a small car but isn't a car minded person. Servicing them is a doddle.

The fuel economy is not as good as my 2018 Civic turbo though. It rarely gets about 40 miles per gallon and here in the states that's still good but my civic will go as far as 47 miles on one gallon of gas. Sorry if you in other countries don't understand my measurement units. But we don't understand yours either. The only thing I don't like about it is the small gas/petrol tank. I bought a first gen GD Jazz vti-s as it was cheaper than fixing my Subaru's head gasket and it was one of my favourite cars I've ever had. I got it at 200k kms and put on another 70k of hard driving after I modded it with suspension, wheels and a full exhaust system and it never gave up, still had the original clutch at 270k. Also the best part of the car was even though it wasn't fast, the way the 1.5 vtec engine revved, it had a boost of power from 5krpm to the redline unlike most other cars which drop off up that end so it was as joy to drive. The only issues I did have were coil packs - very common and especially if cheaper spark plugs are used and the roof leaked at the back of the rails, a bit of silicon fixes that, both common issues. I've got a Fiesta ST now and while it's has so much more performance it's no where near as practical and has more rattles as the jazz, also the stock suspension isn't comfortable at all.

I really look after mine and it has only 39k miles (63k km) and there are 2 things wrong with it in my view. 1. The power - it just needs a bit more than the 1.3 will give and, 2. the front passenger window is not fully automatic and you need to keep your finger on the switch until the window is in the desired position. Surely Honda could have given us fully automatic windows on both front doors. After all, how much extra would that have cost them? Apart from that, 1st class car for the money.

I was sold on a Honda CRV after your( Along with many others) reliability reports but so was everyone else it seems because good ones are pretty hard to find especially with the amount of backpackers using them for traveling around Australia You cant guarantee the correct service history! Thats why I swapped to looking at the Jazz/Fit and it wasn't a mistake! look for one made in Japan as they were also made in Thailand for Australia and if your not freeway driving everyday the 1.3 is good enough! Getting an average 6.7L per 100Km,s stop start traffic around town but am sure the 1.5 would be the same.

How topical !!! We are in market for a small runabout for my kids to learn on, albeit an auto. It's a toss up between this , a Swift and a Mazda 2. The only concern I have with the Jazz is the CVT.....seems the Gen 2 has this sorted, good to know. An aside, after a few months of looking, there are loads and loads of trashed Jazzes on the market, often with "ambitious" unrealistic pricing and dodgy, sketchy service records. A common issue seems to be the paint, hard to find an older Gen 1 car without seriously trashed paintwork.

I have a 1.3 5 speed, 2012 GE Id agree completely on getting the 1.5, but if the 1.3 is available you wont be missing out. Bought mine September 2017, with 39k on the odometer, now showing 173000k and change. Replaced the rear shocks @80000k, cant bitch about that, carried a concrete outdoor table with 2 concrete benches and the plinths for them home after my wife made a marketplace purchase. No idea what they weighed, but my front wheels had zero weight in the steering, I suspect contact with the road was ...tentative. 80k service shocks were leaking. Replaced them. Replaced a relay in the Air conditioning system. Thats it, purely service items at service time. The writing in the LCD screen is no longer visible, the heat from Queensland summers while it sat in the sun in a carpark cooked it. Everything works, just a certain amount of random selection when going through your presets. Cant fault my little pick up truck, readout shows 5.9l/100 a little rough math on fill up shows closer to 6.5, no complaints. Done at least 1/2 a dozen 1200k day trips, yeah, its not a Bentley, but we went for dinner that evening without issue. It has a towbar for a 6 x 4 trailer, it knows its there but just use a little common sense. Great little car, can't fault it, service it every 10k as specified and I suspect it will go forever. I am looking at updating the entertainment, with dashcam and all the yadda yadda, any suggestions?

I have a 2008 Mazda2 with 215k on the clock. Besides scheduled maintenance and tyres it has not cost a cent more. 20Km/L and a rather sporty drive. Probably the most reliable car I have ever had. The Honda is by far the most practical with a touch of ''class''. The Yaris is soo small and has a really bad ride quality. Besides it being a Toyota it brings nothing to the table.

We had this model (2010) and 2015 the early model cvt transmission is horrible and the room is amazing for transporting everything including furniture we used the 2015 model interstate a few times I personally just put a cushion on the seat, we wrote off the 2015 model and it literally split in half underneath we walked away shaken but not injured, I would not recommend buying one as Honda is no more interested in the jazz Australia and plastic parts are hard to get like the black part on rear tail gate including the H , go Suzuki Swift Turbo but you will miss the cargo space…..

I purchased a used Fit, the sport trim of the Gen 2 for $CAN 14K from a dealer with 80K KMs on it. Got rear-ended in it once (and had it fixed), and had maintenance done regularly; zero issues. After 3 years of ownership and and extra 50K KMs sold it back to another dealer for $CAN 13,5K. Would cost $CAN40 to tank, which I'd do every 2-3 weeks as an occasional user. Best car I ever owned. It's amazing and I miss it every day.

Loved my Fit. 2009 cargo people hauling poor persons sports car. Fit everywhere, fit everything. Not great in snow, AC was total Honda shite but damn it was fast, precise and just fun. Miss it and looking for another but the 09 plugs blowing was a real Honda failpoint.

My drive shaft literally just snapped this week on my 74k miles Jazz.. cost me ~£240 for the part and £444 for including maintenance (GBP) I love the car though, got it from my parents for 2.5k and it’s a 2010 with great boot capacity and dynamics with the load layout. I just went to a music festival with 2 friends and myself with a ridiculous amount of camping gear while also getting use of my rear view mirror. Love the car, love it to bits.

Fun fact, the Honda CRZ is based on the Jazz running gear. The engine has some mods but quite a bit is interchangeable. Not everything but the Jazz hybrid and CRZ have a lot in common. Plus the MX5 maybe a better drive but the CRZ eats it for space and comfort as the range of seat adjustability is slightly limited especially seat rake. Currently 2014 CRZ with cvt(wider gear spread)glass roof,17 inch alloys and leather seats. Goes like a Swiss watch. Cheers.

I've owned a 2009 honda fit and a 2006 toyota matrix / pontiac vibe. Personally I'd look for a toyota 1st, and settle on honda fit if couldn't find a 2003-2008 toyota or pontiac vibe. The honda fit are very cheaply made and uncomfortable for driving beyond 30 minutes. There are problems with water collecting on inside the unibody frame and rotting around doors rear hatch and floor. But engine transmission are usually very good. The toyota, ponitac is far more comfortable, can tow with it and not get blown around on the road. But there are far fewer toyota or pontiac out there. Where far more honda fit were made and on the road and more likely find one that was well taken care of and a good price.

Budget small car? Are you kidding me? Even the used ones are EXPENSIVE. Brand new one or very low mileage used ones are more expensive than a car of the next category. This is why Honda sells almost nothing in Europe now.

Jim is an absolute genius. My M8 had a jazz 1.4 se of this generation in the UK. He ran it for 180,000 miles and the only two things that went wrong in 11 years were a seized rear break caliper and what killed it, a snapped drive shaft! I couldn't believe it when Jim in Australia said this can happen. My M8 put it on eBay and someone bought it for 500 pounds, fixed the drive shaft and it's back on the road

Still owing this one already 340000k.. no problem at all. Driven very hard for work and uber. Only oxygen sensors dead. I bought a pair of genius parts overseas($150 compare here $550)and replaced it . Driving perfect.

THE best small car. We have a 2013 sport model and its near perfect for what it is. SO MUCH room inside. We use it as a tiny pickup truck and its so much cheaper to own and drive than a small truck. It has needed pretty much zero repairs (owned almost 7 years) just routine stuff. I love the thing!

This is a little late for me. I just bought a 2005 1.5l manual Jazz earlier this week. I'm moving soon & needed something a little bigger than my motorcycles to carry boxes & stuff & the Jazz fit the bill. And while it's not as fast as my Aprilia or KTM, it's nippy enough to pull away from most traffic at the lights & is a hoot around corners, even on the skinny stock rims. I was going to use it for a couple of months & then sell it, but it's so much fun to drive & was so cheap to buy that I'm going to keep it.

I'm not sure about the GE, but with the first-gen GD there was an additional interior config which Honda called "Refresh". You basically take the front seat headrests off, and then the front seats could recline all the way back and essentially fold flat with the rear seat base. I guess the idea is you could then sit on the back seat with your legs all the way out, or you know, lay down with a friend.......
